An unforgetable rude service

[...] the hotel staff wasn't friendly either (and we thought this is a five start hotel, ha). It wasn't a pleasant stay at Shangri-La Golden Flower Hotel at all.

Great Hotel, Great Service

As expected from the Shangri-La, excellent service from beginning to end, friendly and attentive staff always ready to help. Because I didn't have a laptop, I had to use the Business Center (although the facility is wireless). The room, while nicely appointed, felt a little old - the amenities could have been a little more modern. The staff speaks fluent English. 2 very good restaurants on site. About 10 minutes from downtwon Xian. Worth staying there. Great Hotel!!!

Good hotel - Not close to train or plane

Was a great hotel. The lady caught a cold and they had a bell-boy escort us to a pharmacy and purchase something legit (Chinese pharmacies are something else....). She got something good and made a recovery. Thank you for that Shanrgi-La. Hotel was very nice if a bit aged. The bar only stays open to midnight which was a little disappointing. The business center was also closed during the day and located in the Horizon club. My computer never could connect to the Internet in the Lobby/Bar area so I was left having to haul my work between either the Business Center and Horizon club when at the hotel. They still use IE6 as the computer browser (seems to be common in China) which is pretty scary. I've since changed all my passwords upon returning home. Overall the hotel was very nice if there were a couple of personal annoyances. The service was top-notch and the buffet's were above average. The Duty Manager was also very helpful in all ways... there is always someone with very good English around as well even at late hours. The checkout process was "Westerenized".... I can't say the same for all hotels in China. This is a good thing.

Take bus 306 to AND from the Terracotta Warriors museum. Stop at the hot springs along the way to tool around. Give it a fully day to view both. Don't forget to visit all of the different dig sites....

the good, the bad and the really ugly

First of all, the hotel staff were very friendly. However, the room(even the excutive room) carpet was very dirty. It is definitely not a 5*star hotel. While traveling in Xian, be aware of the "black" color taxi. It is not safe to ride in one and they charge 3 time more than an average "green" color taxi.

Disappointing

The location is terrible. That was no surprise, other reviews I've read have noted the same. Unfortunately the service at the hotel made no effort to compensate for that fact. For example, after assuring us otherwise the concierge sent us to a restaurant whose menu didn't have any english translations. Worse, his directions on where to go upon exiting the taxi were unclear, as we later discovered. The hotel felt dirty and dingy; well past its prime and with windows that looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in years. The entire front of the hotel is glass so it was a significant detraction. The level of service in the spa was disappointing. The masseuse was poorly skilled and trained, even for chinese massage. Not to mention she needed to clip her nails. Ouch! I've stayed about 40 nights at Shangri-La hotels over the past 2 years. Normally they are a wondeful refuge. Not so at this location. I would strongly recommend that you look elsewhere.

The hotel was very clean and the service excellent. The only slight issue was that the rooms were very warm despite turning the thermostat all the way down. Overall very impressed with the hotel and the level of service.

Nice hotel

The Shangri-La Golden Flower Hotel was a very comfortable, and roomy hotel. Each night when they turned down the bed they would place a bookmark with nice sayings from the book Lost Horizon on the pillow. We have kept the bookmarks and use them. They remind us of the beautiful times we had in Xi'an and at the hotel. The restaurant's staff was also very helpful and courteous and had great food. The evening buffet was fantastic! They had American as well as Chinese food. The gift shop was more than the normal hotel gift shop. The location is fine but it is too far to walk to the Walled City. Taxi's are cheap and easy to get.
