Metropark Hotel Shenzhen

simply love it... the location, the services etc... :) Only missing is a inhouse massage and spa facilities....

I enjoy my stay at the Metropark ShenZhen. There was road work going on near the Hotel and management indicated that the works will be completed in June 2011. The Hotel is close to shoping area and quite convenient to buy things.

Location close to shopping distrct and within walking distance to the metro. Room is spacious.

The room is big, but unfortunately the matress is very hard

good hotel centraly located,do not use the massage in hotel...there are better places around ,charge less.

The Metropark is a hybrid. It was, at one point, a serviced apartment style property, with small kitchenettes (and I underscore small), and living areas leading to sleeping areas. The decor is a mixed bag of western and eastern, but the beds are definitely eastern. Don't jump into one or you may need 6 months of chiropractic care. However, if you gently enter the bed the first time and allow your body to adjust, you will sleep well. The pillows and duvet are luxurious and comfortable. The wired Internet access is a little balky, the business center is really just two computers with Internet access and one has a scanner and a printer. The breakfast buffet is sometimes good, sometimes lacking. I believe the regular staff works more during the business week and the breakfast tends to be clearly better then. The staff is motivated and interested in helping and pleasing. Some speak English, some do not. There are some more eastern services such as foot massages, and other eastern healing therapies available. The staff did bring thing I requested and did so promptly. Since the very small kitchenette is not stocked upon arrival, I requested knives, spoon, bowls, etc, and all were brought promptly. The unit had a microwave, clothes washer, and refrigerator. Enough for what I needed. Room was spacious and allowed for privacy. Since there is major construction on the main street that runs in front of the hotel, being on the side away from the major construction is a blessing. The hotel has an equal number of rooms on each side, so you have a good chance of finding a very quiet room. The hotel is close to a lot, but Shenzhen is large beyond words, with new districts spawning more new districts. Across the street is a major grocery store that has most of what you would want. One block away are the version of McDonalds, KFC, and Pizza Hut. Four blocks away is the famous Dongmen Shoping District and they have a Papa John's, if you really need some pizza. However, everything can be found in a short distance, but that is part of the wildness of Shenzhen and other huge Chinese cities that are relatively new -- they have everything in several places within the same city. There is no one "downtown" or city center, there are several. One is where this hotel is -- the Luohu district, then there is the Futian District, and finally, the newest is Nanhan and within Nanshan is the Shekou District which is essentially all new. In Shekou, I thought at times I was in Dallas or Atlanta. Many westerners, a huge Walmart and every western fast food restaurant you could imagine. In Luohu and all the other districts, you will find the finest European and American designers and shops, and think you are on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. This is not the old world China some westerners think. This is a modern, fast paced city with many people driving new cars and every possible luxury available to those that pursue that lifestyle and have found ways to finance it. Taxis are abundant, but most drivers do not know the new places, as building are going up so fast, who could know. Patience and a lot of maps and Chinese directions help. The Metro is also convenient, clean, and inexpensive. You can go from district to district on the Metro and there is a station about one-half mile from the Metropark that will take you all over. It is a simple walk past hundreds of shops. The staff made the stay enjoyable, so I have positive memories of my visit. You just need to ask for what you want and realize that this is not a western hotel and make some slight adjustments, but if you do, you will have a good stay and feel you received more value for your money than at many places.
