Great Value and Shanghai Location Hotel

The Bund-Riverside Hotel was a jewel. My wife and I stayed there for 11 days. It's very clean. The staff was very helpful and all at the front desk spoke English. We where only 3 blocks from Nanjing Street. We walked there every day. The area had many restaurants and food vendors. A very safe area. The rooms had a big screen TV with English pay for view movies for $1.75. We had a city view room with a queen size bed and a coffee maker and refrigerator. The only negative was their breakfast buffet, that was over priced and not very good. I would recommend this Hotel and would stay there again. This hotel is a 4 star.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

If you stay at this hotel, the Bund-Riverside in Shanghai and want discount shopping. Instead of walking to Nanjing Street, go 2 blocks behind the Hotel where there is 3 buildings with 4 or 5 floors of crazy knock-off discount shopping.

Great Stay

Had a great stay here with my girlfriend. The location is roughly 5-10 minutes away from Nanjing Road (and probably more importantly 5-10 minutes away from the E. Nanjing Road Subway Station). Because of that, the room (we had a city view) had an incredible view. The windows in our room were bay windows which had a perfect line of sight towards the Pudong skyline (the Pearl Tower, Financial Center, Shanghai Tower, etc...), a pretty decent view over the Puxi part of the city, and were just great to sit in. Rest of the room was standard 4 star fare, well kept, and comfortable. Shower and a bathtub (with shower). The area directly around the hotel's a lot quieter though, so for nightlife and all it's best to head out to other parts of town. Nice little restaurants in the area though. The concierge is fluent in English, and there was always someone at the front desk who spoke English. Would definitely stay again. Just one point - when booking, the hotel info sheet did mention they had an airport shuttle. They don't in fact have one, but it's pretty easy to reach either one by subway and maglev.

Surprise Value from a special fare

The room was so reasonable that I upgraded to a "superior view room" and was pleasantly surprised by the suite it turned out to be with big windows facing towards the south and the Pudong skyline. Clean, big and comfy. Would stay here again. Also, pretty close to Metro stop Nanjing Road East.

Quite acceptable

The hotel is very old but kept in fairly good share. Some members of the staff are helpful and speak good English. When they are not present comunication becomes a little bit of an issue.

useless staff

Staff will lie to you and tell you whatever to avoid having to do work. $68 RMB bottles of water. way overpriced for the quality of the hotel. Food is just terrible and no wireless internet in most rooms. The lobby connection is too slow to use. Nevertheless, cheaper than most hotels in the city and staff remembers to treat you like the cheapskate that you are.

Great location / view but no view

This was a pretty decent hotel with a great location to shopping and the Bund. The place is overall very nice and clean although the view they promise is not so good as the windows are so filthy you can barely see out of them. I would stay there again but if looking for an authentic Chinese experience.

Good location, but could be cleaned

The staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was comfortable and clean except for the carpet. The carpet needed deep cleaning or replacement. Location was good and the room was quiet. Breakfast was just ok.
