Nice hotel, good location, large rooms

The hotel has great location near one of the World Expo gates and right next to Exit 5 of the subway station. The staff was helpful and speaks enough English to get by, but I wouldn't say it's their strong point (compared to other hotels in China). There's no clock in the room so be sure to bring a watch or alarm. Two small bottles of water are provided per day, and the tv has 1.5 channels in English (the .5 is CNN which was constantly breaking up). They don't change money at the hotel but there's numerous banks across the street and nextdoor. Be sure to read the room descriptions clearly before booking if you want a window (some have no windows). Overall it was a good experience and I'd recommend it to others.

Worst hotel ever.

We received absolutely NO customer satisfaction at this hotel. The list is endless. I'll try to summarize. It all began when our flight was delayed and instead of arriving Thursday night, we were arriving Friday morning. In order not to lose our entire reservation, we had to agree to pay for the lost night. Fine. We were just arriving in China, excited for our vacation. Upon arrival to the hotel, and with an absolutely stifling language barrier at hand, we were motioning, writing, and signing all of the information we needed to convey to one another at the front desk. Finally, we received our room key and rushed to get ready and take off to a lunch for which we had reservations. About 15 minutes into unpacking our bags and getting freshened up for lunch, we were called and asked to move rooms - no bellhop - so we threw everything back into suitcases and transported all 5 to another room - which was smaller. Fast forward to evening - asked for a wake-up call at 5:00 a.m. Received no wake-up call. Only call received was by family member at 5:45 a.m. who said we needed to leave the hotel at 6:00 a.m. to make it to the train station for pre-purchased tickets to another city. Jumping out of bed like maniacs (there was NO CLOCK in the room!), we rushed to turn the lights on, but needed to insert the room key into a box to activate power. Well, the key broke, so we had to attempt to get "ready" in the complete dark. After jamming out of the hotel showerless, makeup-less, unkempt hair, and hailing our own cab outside, we were off on our way. Upon return, we reported that we needed a new key, because due to not receiving a wake-up call and rushing around, we broke the key in half. Then, they wanted to charge us. And I politely disagreed that I did not want to pay for they key because it was an accident, and we didn't get our wake-up call and had to get dressed in the dark so we wouldn't miss the train. When I again was asked to pay for the key, I reminded them about the wake-up call, and that we paid for an additional night for which we did NOT stay in the hotel, and that the customer service was very unsatisfactory. After at least an hour more of arguing, more writing, more signing, one of the staff said that we would be refunded for the night we weren't here upon checkout. I even asked a relative to ask his Chinese-speaking friend to call the hotel. He said it's no use in arguing, he'll try to deal with it later, just pay for the key and get some rest - so I did. Now, fast forward to checkout. Another absolute nightmare. First step, get deposit back. Well fine, until they decided that we opened a bottle of Jack Daniels from the minibar. NO! Did not touch it, never even SAW it. We spent all of our time rushing in and out of that hotel room, with no leisure, didn't put on the slippers, the robe, didn't even look at the mini bar. But apparently, we "opened" the bottle. So then 7 people later and all kinds of discussions, which I could not understand, they still insisted that we opened the bottle. And then proceeded to offer it to us since we did so. I adamantly said NO I did not touch the bottle, we did not open that, I wouldn't take it even if it were given to me free. I am NOT paying for it! So finally we got to the end of that, and they waived it for whatever reason. Then I reminded them that we were supposed to be refunded for the 5th night, the night we were not here due to flight delays. After another 30 minutes and 7 more people and phone calls, she firmly said I'm sorry I cannot give you money back. I walked away absolutely in disbelief about the poor quality of service that this hotel displayed over the ENTIRE time we stayed there. Absolutely despicable. I would NEVER ever recommend this hotel to a visitor regardless of price or location (steps from Gate 2 of the Shanghai 2010 Expo) - - had an extremely unscrupulous experience and plan to make further contact with the hotel about my experience there, and hope to at ...

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

When bargaining with the locals, you may want to offer as much as 10% of what they initially provide as their selling price. For example, a small outfit for my niece was first offered at 280 RMB. We could have gotten it for 50 without a fight, but ended up at 30!

DONT BOOK THIS HOTEL

day 1 we requested for a 5AM wake up call. we woke up to a call at past 7 from our tour guide asking where we were the train will leave shortly, we rushed and put our clothes on without showers or anything else, or else we will be late for the train. In our rush to turn the light on the plastic card broke. WE had no time to take showers or ekse we would ahve done it in the dark; We returned to the hotel past 10PM we cant get in the room because the card broke, we requested for a replacement card , the clerk and manager vehemently refused to give up unless we pay $5.00 , it was very difficult to explain thast we didnt do it on purpose we were in a hurry because we didnt get the wake up call. There was a long time of sign language back and forth. they wont do it they pointed to the fine print that it is stated that if the card was broken there was a charge. Obviously they know this card is very breakable since it was made of cheap plastic. we were so tired we just wanted to get back to the room and rest so we paid them the $5.00. we went to Beiking for a night and 2 days, returned to the hotel late at night. The next day was our last day . the only time we can use the :free breakfast I decided to try the gruel, lo and behold there was a strand of hair floating in the broth. Disgusting! After this brekfast we were ready to check out and drive to the airport they wont let us out , they accused us of tampering the 2 oz bottle of whatever that was in the mini bar in the room. IT was so frustrating to make them understand that we didnt touch it, we didnt have time to even drink their water. we were in Beijing for 2 days and a one night. 405 people were called , each taking turns examining the bottle. my daughter said ' you can look at that a million times we DID NOT TOUCH IT! everything was sign language not even the manager spoke english. WE were going to be late for the airport , I went outside with our luggage while my daughter wrap it up with them. She refused to tell me what they finally settled on, it was not a good topic to talk about. WE were just glad to get out of this hotel . DONT BOOK THIS HOTEL stay somewhere .

Great location, great service!

2 Blocks from World Expo, plenty of shopping, Metro Station Lines 4 and 8 half a block away, staff went above and beyond to meet our needs. No alarm clock in room but plenty of other amenities. Breakfast buffet featuring Chinese fare and good selection. Very nice restaurant.

World Expo main entrance short walk. Fruit stand next door and refrigerator in room allowed light snack prior to bedtime. Bed was VERY firm for Western Standards but functional.
