Excellent hotel!

This hotel exceeded my expectations. Everything about my 6-night stay was excellent. All first-line staff members speak English (some better than others) and are always at your service. The room was large enough with a king size bed and plush pillows. The television was a little small and could not be adjusted to point in a specific direction. They have an ATM on-site, which converts USD into RMB at the best rate you can find, and does not charge a service fee. I wonder if all hotels have this? The bathroom was small but not absurdly so (I’ve stayed at hotels in Manhattan that were much smaller at quadruple the rate), and the lighting could be improved. You have to pay additional for WiFi (around 100 RMB per day), which I don’t like, but the amount is not usurious. As for location, I cannot comment; however, the website said the hotel is located near the convention center, which is not correct. I wasn’t able to checkout the local scene due a sprained ankle, which the hotel staff brought ice for every night. I would highly recommend this hotel. For the price, service and amenities it was excellent.

Watch out for the buffet

The Holiday Inn Vista in Shanghai was very pleasant. The staff were very accomodating and I met some wonderful visotors in the welcoming lobby area. The shower was refreshing and the room was very well maintained. My only surpise was breakfast. In the dining room you can't get just a cup of coffee and toast. You get charged for the entire buffet the minute you step into the dining room. There might need to be an option for visitors who just want a light repast. The dining room staff didn't seem to understand my concern. However, at check out, the front desk did respond to my request to lower the billing. I felt a bit unnerved by this experience as it was my first time in China.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

This city doesn't sleep until 4am. Nearby venues are open almost all night and have entertaining events.
