Excellent Hotel not so good location

Would recommend Sun, May 1, 2011
The hotel is very well managed and maintained. The rooms are spacious and very clean. There is free broadband, safe and LCD TV. There is free breakfast buffet that has American and Chinese dishes. The staff is very friendly and speak good English. The location is about 1/4 of a mile from the Shanghai train station. You have to walk through many locals that do not look very friendly specially at night. What I found is that nobody bothers you as long as you keep walking in the direction you are going without showing any signs of fear. I you are with family members is better to take a taxi to the hotel.

Fantastic - Worth Every Dime!

Would recommend Fri, Aug 20, 2010
We had a late flight into Shanghai from New York and took some time to sightsee a bit before checking in (after midnight). The hotel staff didn't bat an eye and was pleased to show us to our room. It was gorgeous, well-furnished, and spotlessly clean. The view was fantastic, too. The next morning, we were able to find breakfast in the lobby (mostly Chinese-style, but there was some toast and butter/jam) and check our email for the first time in the business center. Finally, the hotel arranged a taxi for us and told the driver exactly where we needed to go. Couldn't ask for better service!

Attractions

Definitely go see the Bund sightseeing avenue, especially at night. It is well worth the short drive, as the spectacular views will blow you away.

Very difficult to beat,!

Would recommend Fri, Aug 13, 2010
I and my wife visited Shanghai mainly for the Expo. So we shopped around to find a hotel that is economical, but situated in a good location. The latter is very important since we will have to do our commuting. We choose the "Holiday Inn Express" brand since we know exactly what to expect. (the level of cleanliness, type of bed and pillow) Yes, they also provide us with a pot to boil coffee or tea - the same standard as many other HI in the US or the UK. But to my surprise, the location is even better than I had earlier thought about. As a self-guide person, I and my wife always prefer to stay near a subway station. However, I have learnt that to get to the Expo - all we need to do was just to get on a number 1 bus which is just a stone throw from HIE. SUPER - It saved us a lot of energy which was highly sought of when queing for all pallivian at the Expo. I would definitely recommend HIE to anyone who would visit Shanghai. Enjoy your trip and take care.

Time saver

Don't use the subway to go to Expo, but go for the number 1 bus. (The subway system is excellent, but the Expo bus is SUPREMO)

Pay extra money to stay somewhere else

Would not recommend Mon, Jul 19, 2010
Despite their description, they are not all that close to the metro station - You have to walk past a very crowded and dirty train station to get to the metro. Also, the concierge who sells day trip packages was misleading. She said the tour bus would pick us up and drop us off at the hotel. In actuality, the bus dropped us off half a mile from our hotel.

Attractions

If you are going to the World Expo, there is a bus you can take that stops near the train station. For Y2/person, it is a non-stop bus that drops you off very close to the China Pavillion entrance.
