5 star hotel in the centre of town

The Grand Central Hotel Shanghai deserves her rating as a 5 star hotel, with all her decor and amenities. It is situated right in the center of busy Shanghai, as validated by having several hotels of high reputation in the same neighbourhood. There are many resturants and shops nearby. It is about 15 minutes walk from the Shanghai Museum.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The Dim Sum restaurant Damatou (Big Horse Head), two minutes walk from the hotel, is a bargain. Clean and comfortable. They offer a 20 RMB coupon for every 80 RMB spent.

Great location, very uncomfortable bed

The hotel was lovely looking and close to Nanjing Road. The mattresses need replacing, the springs were poking through. When we asked for another bed, we came back in the afternoon to find they placed sheets of wood over the mattress under the sheets hahaha. The lifts are noisy of a night but not as noisy as the staff walking the halls talking very loudly amongst themselves. The Howard Johnson a block away would have been the better choice.

Great hotel with a perfect location

This was a great hotel. My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights during our vacation to China. The hotel is centrally located near the Bund, we walked maybe 5 minutes to get to get there from the hotel. There's a subway stop, which is the same line as both airports and the main train station, really close by which made getting around Shanghai that much easier. The hotel itself is super modern, and new. The room we had was really big and comfortable. This place really seemed underpriced for what you got and where it's located. The staff spoke good english and were helpful when we asked questions about Shanghai. If I'm ever back in Shanghai, I would have no problem staying here again.

Centrally located

This is a centrally located hotel that is very close to the No. 2 line subway station and shopping on Nanjing Rd. The room is fairly spacious and clean, with a large bathroom. The only potential problem is that room temperature was a bit high toward the end of the day and the temperature control was not very responsive. We stayed near the end of April and it was not a serious problem, but I can see that it will be for guests staying during the summer months.
