Nice hotel but wifi poor

Lovely hotel with very good staff who spoke English well. Centrally located and cheap to taxi to anywhere of significance. The WiFi was non-existent in our room and complicated to get onto in the lobby. Why they would not throw in breakfast is beyond me. We paid well for a better room and still no breakfast. For these two reasons I will choose a different hotel next time.

Large and lost

The Jin Jiang Oriental hotel is big, a bit tired, and in the middle of apartment buildings--little commercial or restaurant facilities within walking distance--so hotel facilities are the only handy options. I was upgraded to a suite, which was a kind gesture (I had booked a club room), but despite the size of the 2 room suite, the rugs were spotted and facilities no more than adequate. The club room was open only for buffet breakfast and a happy hour, but closed other times (and inconvenience and strange for such a large hotel supposedly catering to business travelers). The hotel had the advantage of good transport from the airport (Maglev train + a short taxi ride). But it was a considerable trek to any sightseeing in Shanghai downtown locations and restaurant or nightlife. As a business person, it was close to my meetings but likely would be a frustration for tourists wanting to experience the vibrancy of the city. Check-out was confusing since free internet and breakfast in the buffet were not coordinated with the lists at the buffet or on the final bill. It was sorted out quickly, but suggested systems needed an upgrade to make the experience seamless. But for Shanghai and Pudong, the room/food costs was reasonable--esp. if one were there for business in Pudong.

Works, for 1-2 nights only

Stayed for 1 night between flights. There is nothing special about the hotel. Staff is not particularly pleasant to deal with, lunchtime food is limited to Chinese/Cantonese/Japanese, swimming pool was closed. Location means taxi is required for anything outside the hotel.
