The good and the unsatisfactory.
The first sour taste in my mouth was felt when I exited the airport terminal building to find that the taxi drivers did not know where the hotel was situated in spite of showing them the receipt I had from Orbitz. I had a Chinese translator travelling with me and eventually we phoned the hotel and they gave directions to the taxi driver. Without a mobile phone I would have been stranded. The next problem was the refusal on the part of the taxi driver to operate the meter and he wanted 100 Yuan to take me to the hotel. Without my interpreter I would have been ripped off as the hotel was a mere 10 mins. or less from the airport and should have been approximately 30 Yuan. My interpreter eventually agreed on a 50 Yuan charge for the trip. The hotel room was rather mediocre. The shower did not work properly with the shower taps stiff and suffering probably from corrosion. Maybe I got one of the worst rooms in the hotel but at the price I felt the standard should have been much better. The location is perfect for one looking for sun, sea, sand etc. together with reasonable quietness. I must admit I was rather disappointed with my overall experience and have had much better vacations for the equivalent expenditure in other parts of China
