There are no amenities, but a tour company hangs out in the lobby of the hotel, so if you want to book a tour, you don't have to go very far. Some of the tours need to have 4 or more people in order to book with the company. Note that if your tour
bus gets into an accident like mine did, you will need to find a taxi on your own in the freezing cold of February! Also note that taxi drivers in the area rarely speak any English, so be prepared!
The location of the hotel is great! Walking distance to the Church of Sophia, the Zhaolin Park, and some malls/markets in the area. There is also a supermarket in the building basement nearby.
The cleanliness of the room is not quite up to American standards, but it's clean enough. There is mold in some rooms under the windows and in the bathroom. You may find dust bunnies here and there. The sheets may have stains on them. If you can get past all of those things, it's a room with a bed, a shower, and a western style toilet.
The room comfort is not ideal, but you take what you can get for the cost of the hotel room. The room was small and the bed was a bit hard.
The most of the staff was friendly enough. Some of the staff are a bit snobbish and don't look you in the face. There is usually at least one English speaking staff member on hand to answer questions. The housekeeping staff is very friendly, but don't speak English. Whenever asking for items, we received them within a few minutes.
The value of the hotel cannot be beat. It is a great location with adequate sleeping and showering conditions. Save money on the hotel, so you can enjoy the costs of the entertainment in the area.
Note: if catching taxis, make sure you have the hotel information written in Chinese. Many of the taxi drivers do not know this hotel and do not speak English.
I would recommend this hotel to a friend that wants to save money.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Short walk from hotel
If you need to get more water or some snacks (the restaurants close fairly early...about 9:30pm or so), go to the MYKAL basement. It is a supermarket. When exiting the hotel doors, it is to your right. It is about 20 steps away and usually has a doorman opening the door for people.
The room was fine and the location great for going around Harbin. The staff were very helpful in organising taxis etc to the airport and the sights. I had booked for half board and the hotel did not honour that as they do not offer half board so
breakfast and dinner are charged separately so DO NOT book for half board as they will still charge for breakfast. The lobby bar and 24 hr snacks consist of vending machines in the lobby so this is very misleading. There is are a few beers and a few bags of crisps. Don't expect much than a good room and location from the hotel a the other services are not as implied in their publications. The breakfast is chinese not continental.
