i was in for canton fair, hotel is nice rooms are a little dated but clean and comfortable, for the same price you can find a newer five star hotel would be a better value. plus side lobby is great ,staff is helpful, theyve got a great pool and gym. only downside: rooms could use renovation

the Garden Hotel Guangzhou is fabulous!
this hotel is wonderful-with its free broadband i-net access, superb fitness center with a host of exercise equipment including 6 treadmills, a fantastic tea room with a garden for outside dining with a beautiful waterfall, and a truly complete buffet breakfast which included an omelet maker-all were superb...my one complaint is that when we arrived at the train station in guangzhou from hong kong, we waited almost 2 hours for their (free) shuttle bus to take us the hotel and it was stifling hot and no place to sit. before this experience, i was whisked away by 3 people in white after an overhead thermoscan read my temperature as more than 37deg. C, or 98.6deg.F. after going through customs when we arrived in guangzhou. i almost did not stay at the garden hotel however as i (foolishly) left my correct destination address on a health form (which they make all persons arriving on the mainland) for the following few days as the garden hotel and had their follow up exams which they administered shown up positive, i would have been quarrantined at some godawful location for 7 days!

there is a haagen dazs ice cream store within a few blocks of this hotel-rather pricey though-about 50RMB, or the equivalent of approximately $7.50 for a 2-scoop cup-but well worth it, especially on an extremely hot day which we encountered often in GZ in august.
