Five-star Beijing hotel in catering to business travelers
Opened in 1991, Swissotel Beijing is one of the older deluxe hotels in the capital. This five-star property attracts mostly business travelers, but vacationers appreciate the easy access to the Beijing subway system. Guests can find everything they need here: including five restaurants and bars, a spa and fitness center, a Bank of China branch, and even a medical clinic.
Highlights
- Location in the heart of the Central Business District
- Easy access to Beijing subway system
- 32 rooms accessible for disabled guests
- Five restaurants and bars
Rooms
The Swissotel's 430 rooms received a facelift in 2004. Standard rooms measure 322 to 344 square feet, while the 68 suites range from 376 to 1,775 square feet. All rooms come with a laptop-sized safe, high-speed Internet access, flat-screen TV, and mini-bar. Thanks to its role as a host hotel during the Paralympic Games in 2008, the hotel offers 32 rooms with access for disabled travelers.
Features
Guests will find some nice conveniences in the building, including a post office, a Bank of China branch and a medical clinic. Among the five restaurants and bars, Happy Valley honors the Hong Kong neighborhood that inspired its name with Cantonese cuisine. Diners can watch chefs in action at the demonstration kitchens inside Café Swiss, which serves an extensive international buffet, and Swiss Deli serves gourmet sandwiches to go. During warmer months, the Sunset Lounge on the third-floor terrace is a place to enjoy drinks with a view. Great Location!
In Beijing, it is paramont that a hotel be near a metro line because of heavy traffic. This hotel is in a great location right outside of the Metro #2 Line. It is also easy to catch a taxi as it is near the center. The amenities of the hotel are okay. It is bit of worn here and there. But given the rate I got, I'd say it was the best value anywhere in Beijing for a 4* hotel. I would stay in this hotel again if the rate remains as attrative as it was.

Very Convenient to the City
The location is wonderful. I could find the location very easily, and since it was in the middle of the city, I was able to get around quickly and easily. It is next to a major subway station, so finding my way around was not difficult. The hotel is a bit older, but well kept. Overall, it was very good.

Excellent Value for $
All went well except for the bed. It was like sleeping on he floor. But the staff did everything they could to accommodate by providing additional blankets and pillows.

Pleased but not overly excited
Nice place, clean, nice room but the air conditioning in the room didn't work very well. We ate at the restaurant in the lobby and had drinks at their lounge and it was outrageously expensive. Don't do it! The lunch buffet for two adults with no drinks was $80! A beer at the lounge was $6! A block down the road we had dinner for 2 for only $10 and 4 beers for $6! The location is good though with a subway stop just outside the hotel doors.

Good hotel right next to the subway
It was a good stay, the staff was very helpful and the location was very good. It is right next the a subway station, there is a Starbucks and 7-Eleven right behind the hotel, a McDonald's within 10 minutes walking distance (for the less adventurous eater), and a couple of Chinese restaurants around the hotel.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
Forget the taxi, take the airport express into the city then hop on the subway, it is one stop away.

Great Location in Bejing!
The location of this hotel is "The Best." We couldn't have done better. Subway station right out the door with access to all of Bejing. We went to Tienamen Square and The Forbidden City twice on this system. Starbucks just behind the hotel which was nice. Shopping center within three blocks. Spa was great with great exercise equipment, most with TV monitors. Free wi-fi in common areas downstairs. great food options. The employees were all very helpful and what you would see in a five star hotel. I would deffinately stay here again. We spent time in Beijing with a friend who lives there and she said we couldn't have done better as far as location. The only negative that I could mention would be the bathroom trim could have used a little updating around the door and tub. I would be really picky to even mention that. I'm sure my Son and his friend that I was traveling with would not have even noticed that. Great, Great, choice if you are going to Beijing. Oh, taxi to the airport was only $16 or so each way and about 30 minutes away.

Great hotel, elegant and good location
I stsyed 4 nights in an executive floor room; this is great value for the money as it comes with a great free breakfast (I often did not even eat lunch, the breakfast was so good and filling), free internet in the room (which is expensive otherwise), and free appetizers in the evening. Wonderful coffee made to order all day long. Location is not at the main tourist attractions like the Forbidden City, but is right next to a metro stop that gets you anywhere; the metro is cheap to ride and the metro stop is a central location. The best Peking Duck restaurant in the city (according to the tour books) is only a block away. I got a good deal on the executive room and don't think I would have enjoyed the hotel nearly as much without those amenities. My friends loved the sauna and workout room.
