The hotel is clean and nice, like the rest of Beijing. We particularly liked the hotel for its friendly, efficient and quick ... service and of course its great location. The travel service desk was great as they arranged our trips to Xian and the Great Wall at very short notice and at a very good price. We tried the room service once and we did not like it much - the menu is very limited. The restaurants within the hotel are not anything special either. Wish there was an ATM machine within the hotel - there is one next door in the bank, but we found it erratic. Taxis are cheap and plenty - but depending on where you want to go, it may be smarter to cross the road (there are several underground crossings in front of the hotel) or walk to an adjoining road and hail the taxi from there. You will save time and some money. Although subway train system (station is right opposite the hotel) is excellent (after the Olympics) avoid them during the rush hour.

Overbooked
disappointed Aug 30, 2009
The hotel was overbooked and I was transferred to another hotel, Grand Mercure. While helping me, the receptionist was ... helping someone else on the phone and didn't bother to explain to me that they were overbooked until she was off the phone with someone else. She didn't handle the taxi transfer to the other hotel and I ended up having an altercation with the driver over the cab fare, which was supposed to be paid for by the hotel. The lobby area is small and of course, smelled like cigarettes.

The hotel is conveniently located to a sub way entrance that gets you to all the major attractions in Beijing. However for dining, most of the best restaurants in terms of quality and value for money are located in the Dongcheng and Chaoyang district thus placing a taxi ride requirement every night. Secondly, the hotel did not offer a rate with breakfeast include and thus adding the cost of the breakfeast to the room rate made the hotel as expensive and any other equivalent quality hotel that included breakfeast.

The Pearl Market is two subway stations away and let you shop with all your hearts desire. The given prices can be up to 1000 % above what you should pay so be prepared for some haggling (this holds true for all markets in Beijing)...

Great location for tourist
putterace Aug 25, 2009
Front desk was professional and courteous. All staff was friendly. Mixture of guests from all over China and the world and no ... one seemed to have any major problems. Very poor facilities for business. No dedicated room with computer, fax, scanner, printer, etc. Concierge services could be improved rather than focusing on tours. Hotel distributed maps are not to scale so don't assume attractions are as close as they appear. But it is close to the main tourist sites and shopping (high end). Beijing is eaasy to bike around, very flat and the hotel started renting bikes. If they don't have any there is a bike rental place 50 yards down the street.

Good size rooms and clean. The comfort of the mattress/bed is just a step away from being a wood board so be sure to come ... back from your day out extremely tired so you can fall asleep! I would say the place is average and is not the ideal choice for business travelers. I stayed for two weekend nights for a quick torusty getaway and it was great for that.... very close to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, helpful staff, but don't expect English speakers outside the hotel. Be sure to have the concierge write down in Chinese where you want to go in a taxi.

The Hotel is located perfectly near a subway hub and in walking distance from the tiananmen square. The staff was generally ... very helpfull and was kind to point out restaurants on the map and write dircetions in chinese to the cab drivers. The rooms were very nice though some might find the beds to be a bit hard. The only (and I mean only) problem we experienced during our 7 days stay is the lack of english ability of the staff. This did not mean that it is impossible to communicate with the staff but that you should be prepared for some frustration when trying to communicate more complicated matter. The above taken into cnsideration I wouldn't think twice to chose the same hotel for my next stay in Beijing.

This is the place I would stay here again the next time! The location and the price are Amazing! The hotel is located just in ... front of a subway station, you can get to most of the Beijing attractions by yourself using the subway as most of them are around the city. Across the street there is a mall with all types of restaurants and even a supermarket .The rooms are really comfortable, clean and has good staff. Definitively would recommend it to all travelers!

April Jul 10, 2009
This hotel was really good for the price. We booked the superior room and yes all the beds in China are like sleeping on a ... box spring but the beds in this hotel were better then most, the bathroom water is supplied via hot spring and the pressure in the shower was good. Things you may want to know in advance is that a taxi from the airport will cost 75-100 CYN depending on traffic and while Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Pearl Market and the Temple of Heaven are just a short walk away they are all only 10 CYN to take a taxi (it was really hot so we took lots of taxis and most of the streets are fenced in so if you want to cross you have to go into the subway and find the exit to that part of the street) The shop and restaurants in the hotel are very very expensive and the food was only so-so if you walk a few blocks up the street you will find some really good noodle shops and there is a bakery right next door to the hotel to get breakfast from that is really really good. Overall most of the staff in the hotel spoke enough english to help us out and gave us a taxi card with all the tourist spots in characters so the taxi drivers would know where we wanted to go, they even translated the address I had for the Harley-Davidson shop I wanted to go to. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again if I am ever in Beijing again.

If you want to go to the Great Wall trust me book the tour through the hotel or hire a driver for the day to take you there. The driver for the two of us was only 600 CYN and we went to Mutianyu section of the wall which was breath taking and not very crowded. We were going to book through the tour company infront of Tiananmen Square but they won't sell you tickets to the wall only until 8:30 and the bus has no air conditioner and if you book that one the road you take is an extra two hours on the bus again trust me take a hired driver or book from the hotel.

Traveling Family Jul 7, 2009
The hotel was clean, quiet and convenient with subway lines 2 and 5 right outside thus making it very easy to visit many ... sightseeing attractions. Technically you could walk to the Temple of Heaven, Tienanmen and Wanfujian shopping district but it will be a bit of a hike. Restaurants in hotel and within walking distance. Rooms were clean though the bed is very firm by US Standards. The hotel is relatively family friendly. We stayed with a 2 yr old and staff nice about getting door/ helping us from taxi with stroller etc. The hotel was also very helpful about holding bags while we continued to sight see before our evening flight.

The location at this hotel is very convenient. However, the staff's English isn't great and the rooms aren't that great. ... Our biggest problem was the bed. There was just a box spring, no mattress, and the hotel staff didn't understand our problem and couldn't fix it. It was very uncomfortable.

Novotel Review
Texas Traveler May 29, 2009
With the extremely hot weather, we would have loved at pool. This was only one of the 2 drawbacks to this hotel. The second ... being that anytime you left your room, it seemed as though someone one come in there-whether it be fixing the sheets on the bed, restocking, rearranging furniture. So it left us a little cautious about securing our valuables in the hotel safe. Also, the location of the hotel is superior to most. No problems with getting a taxi, finding food, shopping markets, or grocery stores. Everything was very easy and the staff was more than helpful. This was really a great hotel for it's price. On other downfall that I just thought of, the beds are very hard. Just like sleeping on a box spring matress-in fact, I'm pretty sure that was all it was. Good for your back though!

My review of Novotel Xin Qiao Beijing
Richard Aug 14, 2007
The Novotel was spotless and polished. I tried both the economy and deluxe rooms. Both are spacious and well-appointed, with ... the deluxe, of course having more amenities, such as free internet time and a happy hour. A major difference in size and layout of the bathrooms was apparent between the economy and deluxe rooms. The breakfast buffet, free to hotel residents, has an amazing variety of foods, both Chinese and Western. There are several fine restaurants catering to various tastes located in the hotel. I only tried one, but the food was very good. I wasn't used to the particular shower curtains in the bathrooms; it is very easy to splash water all over the floor. Combination outlets to handle various plugs are either available in each room, or a power strip can be added by room service. The staff's ability to understand English was acceptable, but there were minor misunderstandings. The lack of airport shuttle service is an inconvenience. But over all, it was a very pleasant stay.

There are shops along a strip mall nearby; it was similar to a mall in Seattle or Bellevue. There are good restaurants nearby, including one famed for its Peking Duck. The mall has a KFC. Tianenman Square is within a long walk's distance. General note: traffic and the crossing of streets can be a bit nerve-wracking.
