Best Location

In any business, location is key. Well, this hotel is the best in terms of location. It is just steps from the #2 line of the subway. The area is bustling with stores and entertainment. Big shopping mall, nice local restaurants, massage places, all kinds of shops. The hotel is of very good value and coupled with the location, value is unbeatable. Even though it's a 4 star hotel, the value is greater than some 5 star hotels in not so bustling area.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The hotel restaurants are expensive and if you are adventurous, try the local restaurants and shops. There's also a McDonalds and Starbucks two blocks away (south of the hotel). Nice bakery right across from the hotel. Bank of China right next door.

central and good quality

good connection for public transport; at the junction of two metro lines (2, 5). Hotel staff is always very helpful with the translation of adresses and other stuff. A lot of different Restaurants and one small grocery within the hotel (at little bit overpriced compared to outside restaurants IMO). The standard rooms are quite small and furnished in a rather decent way; however they look quite clean. The breakfast offers a wide variety of different food stuff (western style; no chinese food). For my taste a little bit too american, but tasty. Make sure that you dont arrive at peak times during breakfast (around 7:30/8 am) during tourist season (september/oktober) since you have to wait a little while (5-10 minutes) for a free desk.

Functional at $90/night

This hotel was centrally located, on a major commercial street. Lots of choices for eating - restaurants, American chains, cafés, street vendors - and shopping - high end malls like the nearby Glory Mall, small retailers, department stores, supermarket in mall basements. We booked the room via Orbitz and reception had some trouble locating one of two rooms from our reservation. The room we had was the cheapest room available at $90/night. We were surprised to find out that this was a windowless room. The rooms appear to have been renovated, but not very well - shoddy construction work. Breakfast was not included. Functional for the price. This room was sufficient for a one night stay; however, I would not have been comfortable more than 1 night.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Weidomei is a very nice bakery across the street from the hotel. It sells a variety of chinese-style salty and sweet buns, sandwiches, but also western-style cakes and bread, including a crusty baguette. The purple sweet potato bun is very very good. It is upscale by local standards. The cafe has seating.

Transit

The location was ideal for a brief stopover. There were department store aplenty to grab something to eat, only 20 minutes away from the airport with taxi fare costing less than 100RMB each way. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and room service was adequate. It wasn't spectacular but the Novotel in Chongwenmen did all the essentials rather well. Certainly won't feel short changed after you stay here.

convenient & cheap

overall positive. I had a short stay and this hotel had a low rate ($77). It is a short walk away from the Forbidden City, and there is a Starbucks close by - all positives for a person who has half-a-day in the city... A big surprise was that the room on the third floor had NO WINDOW. Lots of power in the AC, so the air was OK. Very quiet, but a strange feeling.

Conceirge was very helpful. Subway

Conceirge was very helpful. Subway entrance is just in front of the hotel. Room amenities are basic but will suffice. When we emailed the hotel to inquire about airport transfer for our arrival, we were told they did not offer that service only to find out they had a Tour Desk at the lobby & offered airport transfer at RMB500. Since our flight arrived at 2:00 AM, we were forced to hire a Hertz car. If you need to go to airport at normal time, I suggest you get regular taxi. Do meter or ask Conceirge to haggle for RMB100 which includes toll fee and a little tip for the driver.

Good location, no window in room

The hotel is directly next to a metro stop, which is great! However, the economy room does not contain a window. This was not advertised as such and it is 260 yuan to upgrade to a room with a window. Also, the wireless internet is only in the lobby and did not work when we checked in.
