The Capital Hotel Beijing opened in 1989 and is one of the city's older deluxe hotels. Renovation in 2006 and construction in 2007 freshened up the hotel's 589 rooms. This is a popular convention spot, attracting leisure travelers thanks to its central location near Tiananmen Square and a range of entertainment options.

Dining

The Coffee House in the lobby of Capital Hotel Beijing keeps the caffeine flowing 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Rooms

Accommodations -- 589 rooms, 77 of them suites -- span two towers, one renovated in 2006 and the other built in 2007. Rooms vary in size (300-494 square feet for rooms, 527-1,312 square feet for suites), but all sport the same muted brown and white color scheme with subtle red accents and Chinese design elements. Many rooms have a separate tub and shower. Capitol Club rooms and all suites have free Wi-Fi.

Good hotel, poor staff

Hotel is in a great location, close to famous city sightseeing places. Rooms are clean. However, be ready to be not understood by the hotel staff. They all say that they speak "little english", but this statement is overrated since they hardly speak any English, which gets quite annoying. If you stay in the European or western brand hotel, you will get a better chance to communicate your needs.

Hotel needs some updates

This hotel seems dated and the beds are not very comfortable. There seems to be a much needed renovation starting next month so hope all will improve. Wireless internet connection is very poor and the pay version is only for wire, which won't do much for some of the newer devices that relies only on WIFI.

Quick Business Trip

Clean, spacious, superb location. Set back from the street yields quiet environment, ideal after a long jet lagged journey. Proximity to # 2 subway line a strong positive for managing additional travel to and from the airport (airport express), central railway station and with one transfer the south railway station.

Worth Considering

After 19 hours of travel from Melbourne, I was really looking forward to a good night sleep. To my dismay, the bed was effectively a concrete slab with a sheet. While hard beds are commonplace in China, this one took the cake. I even pulled the sheet back to check if it was actually a mattress...it was. The bed aside, the hotel was fair enough, especially considering it was lower priced than many options. The room was spacious, the staff pretty adept with English and it was walking distance to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. They also were able to book train tickets, something my Shanghai hotel wasn't able to do. I would probably stay there again if I return to Beijing.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

It probably qualifies as both dining and entertainment, but Snack Street is worth checking out.

OK. Excellent location,

The location is very near a subway station, walking distance to Tiananmen Square, convenient to many things. This is a big, famous hotel showing its age. Rooms are worn, though functional and well-equipped. Staff speak excellent English and service is good. Restaurants in the hotel are passable, expensive, and not quite worth the expense. Extra charge for internet service. I'd stay again but would rather classify the hotel as 3-3.5 star.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Stay here for the convenient location. Having the subway nearby means that you can get around easily. Taxis may not want to take you here (or elsewhere in the central area of Beijing) because of the impossible traffic. 10 minutes on subway = 45 minutes in taxi!

Would not recommend

The first room would not cool down because the heat was stuck on high. Then they moved me to another room with a broken toilet. Finally got a working room on the thrird try. This hotel is average or ordinary at best. Not very clean. The toilet still had "remains" from the last person who used it. This hotel is listed as 5 stars. Someone must be getting paid off because there is no way it is a 5 star hotel. Maybe a 3 star hotel.
