Good Location

You can walk to several tourist locations from this hotel. Unfortunately there is a sewer smell in most of the restrooms.

Solid and well priced hotel

First of all, this hotel was a great deal for what you get. Not very fancy, but clean and simple. Also located within walking distance to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The only downside was that the wifi could be a little slow and spotty. The plus side is that they did have free wifi!

Not 5 star, but solid 4 with value.

Very nice room, close to subway, close to shopping and sightseeing. The carpets were not 5 star clean. The pool is ok, not 5 star great. For the price, it is the best value with a pool in central Beijing. Nice bathtub and very comfortable place to stay with a family.

Entertainment tip: Long walk from hotel

About 15 minute walk to New World Shopping Center, there is an ice skating rink for the kids and adults. It costs about $8 per person for 90 minutes and that includes skate rental. It was a fun father / daughter time.

Hotel needs some updates

This hotel seems dated and the beds are not very comfortable. There seems to be a much needed renovation starting next month so hope all will improve. Wireless internet connection is very poor and the pay version is only for wire, which won't do much for some of the newer devices that relies only on WIFI.

first class hotel

Capital Hotel in Beijing is a first class hotel, with a very helpful staff. They went out of their way to insure all the things that I needed to happen on this trip took place on time, including having a taxi ready and waiting for me at 5 AM on a Monday morning.

Shopping tip: Long walk from hotel

Beware of scam artists that hang out in the area who look for foreigners and seem to be overly friendly. One is the "tea ceremony" scam. They take you to a tea room where you sample several teas, then when they buy it seems reasonable to buy one or two or three types of the teas. When the tea server (who is on the scam) shows you your "bill", it's literally 10-15 times what it should be. For tea that normally cost about maybe 2-300 RMB (35-50 dollars) she wanted over 2,000 RMB. When I told her to put the tea back, there was no way I was paying that, she (with the support of the "friends") said, then I must pay for the "ceremony" at 400 RMB. The ceremony is nothing more than sampling different teas, which I have done before, and there is never a charge for the sampling if it is legit. . When I informed my hotel about this, they told me about the "tea ceremony scam" artists that hang around. An added note, scam artist #1, a VERY friendly dude, said he was staying at the Capital Hotel, and asked me where I was staying. He wasn't staying there, so he must have been waiting in the area watching who came from the Capital.

Very good hotel

I had a very pleasant experience here. The rooms are large and clean and the location is fantastic. Walking distance to Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven. It is a little on the pricy side and there was a little hiccup when I was checking out. The checkout process, due to a broken computer system, took 40 minutes, but that can happen in any hotel. Overall, a great hotel.

After checking out, you can leave your bags on the first floor if you have time left before leaving to have lunch or go shopping - it is secure with someone always there watching your bags
