Supersized convention hotel in central Beijing

This 916-room hotel opened in 1987 and remains one of the largest convention hotels in Beijing. The amphitheater-like lobby previews the opulence of the vast formal halls and public spaces throughout the hotel and convention center. Eye-catching design in updated executive rooms competes with the city views outside. This 29-story property in Central Beijing lies between the Financial District and Forbidden City.

Highlights
  • Convention center with extensive facilities
  • Eight dining outlets include a rotating restaurant
  • Stylish executive rooms updated in 2007
  • Halfway between Forbidden City and Financial District
Rooms

All 916 rooms include safe, mini-bar, satellite channels and high-speed Internet. Standard rooms measure 279 square feet, deluxe rooms 430 square feet, and suites start at 667 square feet. Décor in standard and business rooms is mostly functional with white linens and beige carpet and walls. Executive rooms were renovated in 2007 and feature soft celadon and stone colors with silver accents and sleek contemporary furniture. Updated bathrooms have a glass shower, huge soak tub, and glass window looking out to city views.

Dining

Three of eight restaurants focus on high-end Chinese delicacies like shark fin and abalone. Tan Restaurant serves Shandong and Sichuan specialties and resembles a nobleman's courtyard house with elaborate wooden screens, enormous landscape paintings, and delicate lanterns. Shanghai Pavilion evokes the Jazz Age heyday of Old Shanghai. Starlight Revolving Restaurant on the 28th floor makes a 360-degree rotation every 110 minutes.

I would not classify this as a 5 Star hotel

We stayed here as during the Beijing part of our 7 day tour (both before for 3 nights and after 1 night). Although the reception areas were plush, the rooms were very ordinary and the bathrooms were not well maintained (for a 5 star hotel). We found alot of the the reception staff couldn't speak english and were quite rude (this compared with staff at a 4 Star Xian hotel which spoke very good english and we extremely helpful#. You can't #or that's what we were told# book taxi's and had to wait in the taxi queue outside the hotel - we waited 45 mins for a taxi and therefore couldn't make it to the restaurant we originally wanted to go to #restaurants close really early for a capital - 9 or 10pm#. We couldn't find the conceirge to help us with restaurant recommendations and other staff very unhelpful. We asked which buses went up to Wangfujing #shopping street) and were told none but later we figured out at least 2 did. I would not stay here again and would not recommend this to others.

Quite a lot of restaurants close really earlier (9pm or 10pm) so take this into account. We had quite long days on our tour and by the time we got to the hotel and freshened up, alot of the restaurants were shut.

my hotel stay in June 14

Although hotel is huge and consider to be 5* in our understanding it is 3* and hospitality is average. Service do not speak English and cleanness of the room desires better. Air conditioning is playing up Reception was not that enthusiastic and very money driven. Hardly speaks English Feels like hotel is focusing on Convention and parties rather than guests. Costs in Hotel bars and restaurant is outrageous. Glass of Ginger-ale $9.00US. Most services are extra costs, the pool water is cold. Business center internet is costly Taxis don't know this hotel whereabouts and don't like using meters. My experience is average.

THEIR COMPUTER INTERNET IN THE ROOMS (I HAD TO CHANGE ROOMS SEVERAL TIMES) HAVE VERY OLD BROWSERS, AND THEIR TECHNICIANS FINALLY GIVE UP ON THEM WHEN TRYING TO GET THEM TO WORK, MY LAPTOP I HOOKED UP WAS VERY SLOW, AND THE WIFI DID NOT WORK...THE COMPUTERS IN THEIR BUSINESS CENTER ALL HAD OLD BROWSERS, AND I HAD TO SWITCH FROM COMPUTER TO COMPUTER...THEY CHARGE VERY HIGH RATES TO USE THE ROOM COMPUTERS, AND EXTREMELY HIGH RATES IN THEIR BUSINESS CENTER!! THEIR PEPSI AND COCA COLAS ARE $10.00 U. S. DOLLARS EACH. BREAKFAST IS $26.66 U.S. DOLLARS, AND IS 90% CHINESE INSTEAD OF WESTERN LIKE THEY ADVERTISE.

Short stay but long on the positive!

We stayed at Beijing International for 7 day's; Apr. 25th-May 2nd. We booked the hotel because it met our criteria's. It was in a good location to visit the major site's, the public transportation system was within a short walking distance and the local street market's were literally around the corner's! There were vegetable market's and bakery shop's that most will never see in their own country! The room was modern, the bed's were comfortable and the street scene was intoxicating. Did I mention that this was one of the cleanest cities that we've ever traveled? I beg to all tourist's that stay in this hotel: embrace the professional staff and PLEASE try to enjoy the great city of Beijing! This hotel was a fabulous gateway.
