Supersized convention hotel in central Beijing

This 916-room hotel opened in 1987 and remains one of the largest convention hotels in Beijing. The amphitheater-like lobby previews the opulence of the vast formal halls and public spaces throughout the hotel and convention center. Eye-catching design in updated executive rooms competes with the city views outside. This 29-story property in Central Beijing lies between the Financial District and Forbidden City.

Highlights
  • Convention center with extensive facilities
  • Eight dining outlets include a rotating restaurant
  • Stylish executive rooms updated in 2007
  • Halfway between Forbidden City and Financial District
Rooms

All 916 rooms include safe, mini-bar, satellite channels and high-speed Internet. Standard rooms measure 279 square feet, deluxe rooms 430 square feet, and suites start at 667 square feet. Décor in standard and business rooms is mostly functional with white linens and beige carpet and walls. Executive rooms were renovated in 2007 and feature soft celadon and stone colors with silver accents and sleek contemporary furniture. Updated bathrooms have a glass shower, huge soak tub, and glass window looking out to city views.

Dining

Three of eight restaurants focus on high-end Chinese delicacies like shark fin and abalone. Tan Restaurant serves Shandong and Sichuan specialties and resembles a nobleman's courtyard house with elaborate wooden screens, enormous landscape paintings, and delicate lanterns. Shanghai Pavilion evokes the Jazz Age heyday of Old Shanghai. Starlight Revolving Restaurant on the 28th floor makes a 360-degree rotation every 110 minutes.

Watch out for Card Fraud !

I stayed this hotel from August 4 to 7,2011. My card information was stolen in a way at the front desk of this hotel. My damage could have been $ 2300 if I had not been informed by the card company about this as suspicious transaction. It was by the entity named " *** Wien". The card might be skimmed when I produced it to the front desk women for security deposit on arrival and leave. I used my VISA credit card only in this case during my stay in China. Please watch out when you use your card in this hotel...and also anywhere in China.

Beijing International Hotel

The hotel amenities were good but initial checking in was very difficult. We had four rooms, 2 from May 19 and 2 from May 20. On each day, they could not find our reservations [...]. After a long search that involved calling the supervisors and all that, they were able to locate the reservations. [...] we got view of a construction site and when we requested for rooms with nicer views, they said that none was available. Other than that, the rooms inside were nice and the reception area and facilities were OK. The gym and the pools were closed for repairs. The location was nice.

Great Hotel

This is a clean and well-furnished, roomy hotel in a good area of Beijing for seeing the sites. The subway station is about a 5 minute walk from here, so you can get to any of the tourist spots easily. The staff was professional and helpful. We had no complaints about it and really enjoyed our stay here.

Good value

Once we were moved to a more modern room on the 4th floor facing west, we were happy. The hotel staff was competent and friendly. The location is very convenient: 2 blocks to Wangfujing, Beijing train station and a short distance to 2 subway stations. The priviously assigned south facing room on 17th floor was smelly and hot. The bathroom had foul smell from drainage.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Hotel is on the route of airport bus costing less than the normal cab fare of approximately $100 from Terminal 3 or $85 from Terminal 2. Hotel's buffet breakfast at 128 rmb is expensive when McDonald, across the street and KFC close to the train station offer much less expensive options.

Good location--and facilities--and price

We enjoyed our room, which had a lovely view--a big comfortavble bed--a refrigerator and a pot for heating water. The shower was a bit difficult to use, but that was minor. The buffet breakfast was very good, and the hotel's location was convenient.

3 Star hotel

1. Taxi driver would not like to go to this hotel, so you will have major problem traveling in and out of it, because Beijing's taxi drivers really are most spoiled drivers on earth. They refuse to go to difficult to go places, but if you pay 3-4 times more, you can still get them drive you. 2. The hotel's location is on the main street of of Beijing city, suppose to be a good one. Looking at the map, I thought so too. However, It is at a cross intersection which does not allow left turn. So the taxi driver has to turn right to the intersected street, drive down some distance and than make a U-turn to come to the hotel. Almost all taxi drivers hate this, have no time to do this. We were refused many times by taxi drivers to do business with us. The public transportation is good on this spot. So we took buses all the time. 3. Staff are most shockingly rude for a hotel in this kind of standard. They are easily amused by customers' "stupid" questions (what we saw before we checked in, a family of 3 (non Chinese) were confused and asked questions at the front desk, I saw the staff answered the questions without expressions on face, while the clients turn away, they were laughing and talking and looking at that poor family). 4. At my turn of check in, the staff either look away or argue with me with Chinese terms (standard room, non-standard room) She said, told you already,(meaning why I did not get it). I have no idea about standard room or non-standard room means in China.[...]. The staff is really not helpful at all. They probably think all customers are stupid something. I told the staff on the spot, that I do not like your altitude. She just looked away. 5. The restraunts inside hotel is ridiculous expensive. So I think the hotel is a money trap. Get foreigners in a mid of place hard to get any where, and then charge them enoumous on food and drinks.

Great Hotel - totally affordable access

Awesome service - there was a shuttle to and from the airport, and the concierge hooked us up with some great tips for traveling the region (and the right driver to take us there). I didn't want to leave. Wish the pool had been open, though.

Take a taxi to the Forbidden City - don't try to walk. Beijing city blocks are looooooooooong!
