The Hotel Terranostra is located in Valparaiso's commercial district, at the foot of Cerro Concepcion. The historic building, dating from the early 1900's and designed by Alfredo Azanacot (who also designed Triumphal Arch in France), formerly housed the Banco Hipotecario de Fomento (BIF). On the ground floor you can still see the original doors to the bank's vault. The hotel is next door to the offices of the Mercurio de Valparaiso newspaper and to the staircase that sits on the site of the mythical pirates' cave known as the "cueva del Chivato", up which you can reach Cerros Concepcion and Alegre in six minutes.
