Fantastic Location

It's not a 4-star hotel, BUT it is in a great location for exploring central Santiago, and it's comfortable enough for a day or two. The rooms are dated, but are very spacious, and reasonably quiet. The main restaurant was excellent. It seems to be popular with locals as well, so it's a good idea to make a reservation if you can, even for lunch. The breakfasts were good, with enough selections to suit everyone. The free wireless network was unreliable and slow for the most part, but found that to be true in most of the hotels in South America.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The Fine Arts Museum has a nice, small collection, and a particularly interesting installation piece in the main atrium (April 2013). The little open air artisinal market nearby also has some good stalls for good/more authentic souvenir shipping.

Great location and ambiance

I really liked the Galerias. It's located right downtown, within walking distance to Plaza de Armas. Many places nearby to eat and shop, several banks with ATMs nearby, etc. The decoration of common areas, with aboriginal artifacts, gives the place an exotic look, in spite of this being really an average hotel in terms of amenities and services. The breakfast buffet was ok, but nothing too fancy: mostly American style eggs, cereals, muffins, ham, yoghourt, etc. The restaurant in the 6th floor offers a nice menu of Chilean cuisine, and prices were reasonable (although the service left something to be desired. I had to keep asking the server to bring me plain water, which wasn't provided initially, as we're used to in North America; napkins were missing, etc.) WiFi service was really good and fast, although a little weird: they have different networks per floor, so you have to keep reconnecting while moving from your room to the restaurants, or other common areas.
