East End Tranquility and Comfort in spacious Grand Cayman condos

The Morritt's Tortuga Club and Resort, located on the quiet East End of Grand Cayman, leases studio, one-bedroom, townhouse, and penthouse condos with a private terrace or balcony. An enormous free-form swimming pool, adorned with its own palm-treed island, serves as the centerpiece of this beachfront resort, providing the backdrop for a relaxing lunch or some of the hottest nighttime Caribbean entertainment. Morritt's Tortuga welcomes guests who prefer the area's exceptional scuba diving, snorkeling, and windsurfing.

Highlights
  • Good watersports facility for scuba diving
  • Spacious condo suites
  • Kids Camp
Rooms

Guests select from studio, one- and two-bedroom condos with distinct living, dining, and sleeping areas, and each with a patio or balcony. The spacious accommodations include a king or two double beds, a full kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, toaster, stove, silverware, and dishes, cable television, air conditioning, and ceiling fans. Condos are arranged in a series of three-story beachfront villas overlooking the ocean.

Features

Morritt's offers some of the island's best diving, within close proximity to Grand Cayman's renowned "West Wall." Tortuga Divers operates on-premise and focuses on diving and windsurfing excursions, including dive trips to Stingray City. Other watersports include kayaking, sailing, renting a waverunner, snorkeling trips, and sunset catamaran sails.

More leisurely pursuits include a game of shuffleboard, horseshoes, beach volleyball, or rum relays at the pool. Burn off extra calories with the popular water aerobics, tennis on the court, or a session in the gym. Kids from 4 to 12 can become a "pirate for a day" at the Kids Camp.

Dining choices at the property include Mimi's Dockside Bar and Grill and David's Restaurant, offering local seafood specialties. The Grand, Premier, and Dockside Bars offer tropical cocktails at the pool or beach.

Great for families

We had a pool side room which was great for the kids 7 and 10. They both can swim so we could just sit on our patio and watch them. There were quite a few kids there. The pool also had a swim up bar with 2 for 1 from 4 to 6PM. The area around the pool has ample tables with umbrellas and lounge chairs. The beach also had huts for shade and plenty of beach chairs. The water is very calm and the snorkeling was the best. Just under the dock there were hundreds of different types of fish. We would highly recommend the Morritt's Tortuga. Only thing to remember is that eating out on Grand Cayman does get pricey.

Couples getaway

We enjoyed the time spent there. Lots of places to go swimming, pools clean, hot tubs were too. Towels were always available, as were poolside, and oceanside chairs. Food was reasonably priced and came hot and tasty. The staff was always courteous and helpful. They charge extra for wi-fi, and energy charges, but the amounts were around $100.00/week for both, nothing too outlandish I guess. Overall very relaxing, and decent value. We will do it again.

The escorted jet ski trip offered on site was a must do. Lots to see along the reef you can't get to without the guide, and jet ski.

Week-end getaway

Morritts Tortuga was conveniently located to the snorkeling places we wanted to go to. We preferred the northeast end so much better than the west end. The accommodations were good, clean, and quiet (at the time we stayed) . The overall trip was relaxing. The food at David's was delicious but the prices were higher than expected. Would definitely go back again.

Red Sail provided our water activities (snorkeling, jet skiing, and playing with the stingrays). Good experience. Will do scuba with them next time.

Tropical Paradise

I took my 21 yr old daughter as a graduation present for a week. We had a blast. We went clubbing with the entertainment director to a salsa club. The next night she hung with my daughter at the reggae club. I hung out with one of the bartenders at some local bars. The food was fabulous. I always rent a convertible, who wants transportation provided?? I would give it 5 stars, except the company that provided the snorkeling trip was a major disappointment. Rode horses on the beach. Perfect vacation!!!

The good and the unexpected!

It was a nice location to stay at, however, we were not told ahead of time that you pay for utilities at the end of your stay. There was some additional cost for most things. Although some of the employees were courteous, they were not friendly. When service was requested for towels, etc. they came but a significant amount of time later. I would say it was satisfactory, but not a "5." The room and facilities were nice and they had affordable entertainment. Our room, which had an ocean view was quite nice.

If you are visiting from the US, be prepared to pay 20% more. The quality and amount of food where we dined was excellent, however, expensive. All prices were shown in Cayman money, which seemed reasonable and somewhat surprising when converted.

Quiet Island Getaway

If you're looking for a quiet place to stay, Morritts Tortuga Resort is the place. It is located on the lesser developed side of Grand Cayman, about a 40 minute drive along scenic coastal road from George Town. Rooms are airy and spacious and done in tropical decor. Two restaurants, three pools (with swim-up bars), and gym on site. Grocery store short distance away if you'd rather prepare your own meals in your kitchen. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The beach is very nice, with lounge chairs and hammocks for guest use.

There are a couple other restaurants nearby that are worth trying if you don't want to eat at the resort. Over the Edge, Tukka, and the Lighthouse are easy to get to and offer both traditional and island fare.

Umm....

The hotel had all senior citizens and retirement folks. My friend and I were the only young people at the entire resort. The service was ordinary. The food was very expensive. The hotel did not offer transportation to and from the airport. The rooms were very nice and clean. The rooms were set-up like an apartment. The resort was relaxing but not a place to go if you are looking for loads of fun.

Island Paradise

We are divers and used Ocean Frontiers, 2 miles down the road. The unit we stayed in at the Morritt's Tortuga was really nice. We only stayed one night while waiting for our timeshare unit at the Morritt's Grand. They moved our luggage & groceries over to the unit we had for two weeks. It was a seamless move.
