Typical 3 star hotel but with rude staff

We arrived August 2nd to stay for 3 nights. Our room smelled like smoke horribly and when we went to open the window it litterally almost fell off. They sent someone to fix the window twice but it was still broken by the time we left. Our toilet also leaked out the side everytime we flushed. They sent someone to fix that, and somehow black looking tar was all over the floor. I had to call to request house keeping. On our final day there, housekeeping came at around noon when we were still in the room. We said we would leave soon. We did and returned at 4pm, to find our room had still not be cleaned. I called the front desk to ask for the room to be cleaned, and more towels, shampoo, soap etc. Staff on the phone were rude. During checkin and checkout staff were also rude. Room was tattered and dated, carpet had stains and was raised as if it hadn't been laid properly. The bedding also never covered the entire mattress so bar mattress at the top was always exposed. No mattress cover. Would not recommend.

Usual High Novotel Standards

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in June 2014, and was completely satisfied, as always with Accor Hotels. The Novotel is in a great location, on a quiet side street just off Ste Catherine. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-designed. My only complaint was that the drain in the bathtub was clogged, but when asked the staff fixed that.

Great Location, Great Hotel

This was our first trip to Montreal, and I largely picked this hotel as a balance of location, amenities, and price. After 5 days there, I can't say I regret any aspect of that decision. The location was perfect--right off the 747 bus from the airport and 2 blocks from a Metro stop, close to the Tourism office and many attractions. The staff was very friendly, and provided great recommendations on local restaurants and attractions. We had a minor issue with the bathroom facilities (which could have happened anywhere), and once reported the issue was resolved quickly and effectively and resulted in absolutely no adverse impact to our stay. The room itself was very clean and well apportioned. On my next trip to Montreal I would absolutely book this hotel again.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

While we took in many museums and attractions around the greater Montreal area, one of the best features of the hotel's location was the surrounding area. There were several establishments within 2-3 blocks of the hotel to get a nightcap and relax at the end of a long day.

Excellent Value - Great Location!!

I have stayed at this hotel for 5 of the last 7 times that I went to the Montreal Jazz Festival because it is an excellent value and is so close to Cresent and Ste. Catherine Sts. If you want restaurants, nightclubs and bars without being on top of them, then this is your place to stay. I recommended this hotel to friends who needed a place to stay for their Bachelor Party Weekend - they just came back and they loved it also. The renovations are complete, so all the reviews that didn't like the construction are obsolete. The new rooms are great and the hallways are even all "jazzed up." There's a new gym and the restaurant bar and patio service are great for just relaxing.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

If you take the 747 bus from the airport, they drop you off on Rene-Leveque - not even one block from the hotel and there is a 747 bus stop to the Airport just at the end of the block - one building away.

weekend trip to Montreal

- The location is perfect, everything is in walking distance: river, old montreal, shopping, mont real, dining, etc. - The hotel has a nice modern design, which set it apart from the ordinary hotels - the parking garage downstairs is convenient, but $22 and you might find cheaper lots nearby

room charges

I had a five night reservation and asked if I could add another night if needed. I didn't need the extra night but they charged me for it anyway. They were uncooperative and even rude when trying to reconcile this matter.
