Great but just misses the top spot.
Lovely feel in this hotel - very warm and welcoming. Love the architectural style. Now the negatives and I'm really nit-picking here. These didn't really spoil my stay but if you want to be perfect the devil is in the detail. Upon entering the room the stereo was on at a low level but not tuned into a station properly. Each day when the room had been serviced - the same thing. If you're going to go to the effort of turning the stereo on - at least tune it into a channel so I don't have low level static playing when I enter. Very odd. There were cobwebs where the wall meets the ceiling above the bed. ...and that's about it really - the rest was great. Worth the money? I guess that depends on what you like. I would return.

Beautiful Hotel in the Best Location!!
My first visit to Montreal - magnifique!! The Nelligan is in a prime location in Old Montreal, on a cobble-stoned street that leads into an area lined with cafes, galleries, shops & restaurants! We began our evenings at the Nelligan's roof-top bar/restaurant which, in addition to magnificent views, appears to be THE place to be seen in the late afternoon/evening. Breakfast at the Nelligan was wonderful...we also found a cafe a few blocks away where we had scrumptious pastries. Dinners at nearby restaurants were incredible! We were in Montreal for the Rodgers Cup and took the Metro to/from the tournament. It was so easy to travel back & forth on a transportation system that was fast, reliable and incredibly clean! I'm already planning my return visit .......

Sightseeing tip:
Not Applicable
(1) because of the popularity of Nelligan's rooftop bar, request a room NOT on 5th floor (ours was on the 5th floor just down the hall from the bar's entrance) -- very noisy as the night went on and at closing. (2) Ladies: wear comfortable shoes for walking ... cobblestone streets are tricky to maneuver in heels!!

Great Service, Rooms, and Location
Probably the best place my wife and I have ever stayed. The petite suite was gorgeous, the staff was very friendly and accomodating, and the terrace restaurant on the 5th floor with great views of Old Montreal was a nice bonus. A fireplace in the room was also a nice touch.

Very classy
Perfect location for my short first visit to Montreal, walking distance to the port for my cruise ship. A lively "In"-crowd at roof terrace and open-air restaurant. Incredible restoration and furnishings in room. Staff readily switches to English from French.

Hotel Nelligan
Lovely experience. Bed was quite comfortable, air quality was good, hot water was plentiful, lighting very pleasant (if they use those jarring new fluorescent bulbs, they're well disguised). The staff were helpful and polite. It's close to lots of cute, quaint, reasonably priced places to eat, and art galleries, and the interesting Port, which is important for travelers whose mobility is limited. Granted, there is no coffee in the room, but it's easy to get from the lobby in the mornings. Items purchased off the breakfast menu were quite good. It's very dignified. I recommend it for anyone who wants to sense the pride Montreal natives justifiably take in their amazingly beautiful city.
