Great Location & Accommodating

Great location near St. Catherine St. with short walk to historic Old Town and esplanade at the beautiful St. Lawrence River. Phone staff very accommodating in giving me exactly the quiet upper room I wanted. Desk staff friendly and helpful. Details like fast elevator, coffee maker and fridge in room are big pluses.

Great location.

My stay at the Lord Berri hotel has always been pleasant. While lacking some of the amenties of bigger chaies i.e. a pool and things, the place is always kept clean. The location cannot be beat! The Berri/UQUAM metro stop is less then one block away. Restaurants is right at the corner. Just one block away is St. Denis street for the young/hip straight crowd. The hotel is also just a short walk to China Town and Old Montreal. It really is a great place to stay to see all the sites Montreal has to offer.

Great for couples

The room was very nice. We were on the 10th floor with a nice view of the fireworks that were going on our first night. Each day the room was cleaned spotlessly and the staff were very friendly. We had an extremely good rate for the location of the hotel. The metro is just 2 blocks away and the hotel is on the edge of the latin quarter and the village.

Friendly staff

The hotel staff was accomodating. The only downside was a $10 fee for an internet connection, and the system was down for about an hour. When calling for directions to the hotel the desk staff couldn't supply them, and 2 phone calls later I got someone who knew. The location was good and the on premises restaurant breakfast was expensive, but very good. I had hoped for a small free breakfast.

Eat breaksfast elsewhere, and get directions before-hand. PS This hotel is on a busy street so ask for a room in the back.

A Diamond in the Rough

The Hotel Lord Berri in Montreal was a convenient lodging for myself as a first-time visitor to the city. I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who attended to me immediately and who was also knowledgable about her city. The room itself was adequate for our needs: comfortable beds and pillows, moderate spacing, OK view (we weren't staring at the back of buildings!) and an OK bathroom with clean linens. However a major drawback was the smell. The hallways and particularily the room had a lingering odour of stale urine and there was an overall sense of ... oldness: the bathtub floor was stained, the carpets were worn and musty and the decor was dated. However, as stated, since this was my first visit to Montreal, these drawbacks did not take away from my overall visit. The hotel served its purpose of providing me with a clean, comfortable space to lay my head to recharge for a new day of sightseeing. The location itself was awesome! We were steps from the main downtown street, Old Montreal, the harbourfront, the metro (subway), and many other features of the downtown core. It was no problem to spend an entire day walking the city, walk back to the hotel, change and walk right out again for a night by the water! Truly a blessing. All in all, I feel that I got what I paid for at this hotel. To be honest, if I was going to visit Montreal again, I probably would NOT choose this hotel, simply because I would be looking for something a bit more modern (and less smelly). But this is why this hotel is a diamond in the rough: with some simple rennovations, deep cleaning and more modern touches, the Hotel Lord Berri would be able to rival any other upscale hotel in the city.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

You MUST stroll down the Rue Commune down by the harbor. A 5 minute walk from the hotel straight down Berri street to the harbor. Entertainers, artisans, horse & carriage rides and the best cafes await you on a short stroll west! Also, great shopping on Ste. Catherines street ... just steps from the hotel.

Very Friendly

Perfect location. Close to the Metro UQAM stop which is the station where two subway lines intersect. This Metro stop gives accesss to the whole city and museums, etc. Lord Berri is within walking distance of Old Montreal and is in a safe fun neighborhood. I was there during the jazz festival and all events were only several blocks away! The staff were bi-lingual and wonderfully friendly and helpful. I recommend staying there!

Good location

The Hotel Lord Berri is located less than 1 block from UQAM-Berri metro stop, where three separate subway lines intersect. Also less than a block away is St. Catherine St., which is closed to vehicle traffic for the summer for several blocks starting at Rue Berri. The room was somewhat small, though clean. There was only one chair in the room, and unfortunately it was very uncomfortable. The air conditioning unit was old but functional, and the bathroom was satisfactory. The on-site Italian restaurant, with mid-range prices, was actually quite good. Overall, as a discount hotel, Lord Berri was a good value.

A very good breakfast place is Chez Cora, about 4 or 5 blocks from the hotel. Also, the many underground malls in Montreal are accessible through the various downtown subway stations.

Standard rooms. Clean and comfortable.

Parking was full and lot next door charged $15. per day for overnight stay. Wireless internet access was charged at $10. per day which is high. It was close to Ste. Catherine Street and about a 15 minutes walk to Old Montreal. we like walking so location was not a problem. Staff were friendly and immediately reverted to English when they knew we did not speak French well. Lots of restaurants within a 10 minute walk. Subway access 1/2 block away. Main stores in Ste Catherine St,. about a 15 minute walk. Montreal casino, if interested was 1 subway stop from the Berri stop at the corner about 200 yards.

Great Location

The Lord Berri Hotel was in an ideal location for our vacation stay. It was only a block to the central Metro station and a few blocks from Old Montreal and the central district. It was very comfortable and the one problem that we had (the air conditioner broke) was fixed right away.
