Ordinary

It's ok if you just sleep there, don't think of staying at te hotel and enjoy the room... Tiny room, no hair dryer, no iron, tiny television, absolutely no sound insulation, no space for luggage.

Perfectly Fine Comfortable Affordable Hotel

If you're looking for luxury, look elsewhere. If you're simply looking for a place to leave your bags, take a shower, and get a good night's rest, then the Hotel Champ de Mars is perfect! This is a no-frills hotel. The rooms are small. There is no elevator - work-off that good Montreal food by climbing the stairs to your room. The rooms are clean. The staff are friendly. It's perfect for travelers who are more interested in being active outside in the city of Montreal and merely need a place to hang their coat. The hotel has a restaurant but we didn't eat there - opting instead to sample the wide variety of restos throughout Montreal. Positioned close to the old section of Montreal, there is an old-world feel to this French pearl. This was our second time staying at the Hotel Champ de Mars and we will most definitely stay again!

Good for two nights max

1)The Hotel doesn't have a car parking so you will park in a private parking were you need to pay 17 dollars each time you park. So if you went to eat dinner and come back then you will pay another 17 dollars. 2)The small rooms doesn't have a fridge so you cant bring any food with you to the room. 3) The Hotel doesn't offer free breakfast and you need to pay for the breakfast. and its offered at 8 AM so if you need to leave earlier you cant eat. 4) WiFi is only in the lobby. No internet in the room. Overall, the Hotel is good if you don't need any of the points mentioned above.

Quaint but small

The location of the hotel was perfect, near the historic old montreal. The outside of the hotel was charming and quaint. However, the room was as small as a postage stamp. We could barely walk aroudn the perimeter of the full size bed. The owner bragged about the breakfast quality and value but were disappointed that they did not serve breakfast until after 8 a.m.

Concert in Montreal

They have guest services from 730 until 11pm. It was a great location a 6 min walk from the metro and close to all the shops of downtown. The room was small and clean but not updated much with fresh paint. I will say because it is a old hotel you can hear everything your neighbor does everything !! I enjoyed my stay.

My husband and I flew to Montreal for a weekend getaway. After researching the hotels, I chose The Hotel Champ de Mars primarily for the location. After reading the reviews, I wasn't expecting much more than a place to sleep and shower. Wow! We were surprised. This is a quaint hotel. The room was small and the bath was of average size; however, the room was very clean with antique furniture. The level we stayed on was very quiet. The staff was very friendly. We ate breakfast at the hotel which was excellent and a bargain for ten dollars. This is a family business which adds a personal touch for the guests. The hotel is in a great location and walking distance to Old Montreal. I would definitely stay here again. This place is a hidden gem in Old Montreal.

Take the 747 bus from the airport to Station Berri- UQAM. This will put you on Rue Berri. Hotel Champ de Mars is about four or five blocks away. You can get a three day metro pass for $16 for unlimited transportation on the bus and metro system.

A good and cheap place!

It is so worth the price! I don't stay in the hotel that often, but it's so convenient to go to the old port and Chinatown. I enjoyed my stay very much. The staffs are also very friendly.

Great Location | Standard 2 star hotel

If you’re looking for luxury this is not the place. If you need a standard no frills room in a great location then it is a good option. I was overall happy with my experience there. The hotel was inexpensive with very nice people working there. The room was very small with a double bed with older comforters and drapes. The room was too small for a dresser or closet and the TV did not work. The bathroom was surprisingly large in comparison to the size of the room. It was clean but things are much older and not modern chic in any way. For the price and location I was very happy. When I think of an inexpensive 2 star hotel this meets my expectation. The listing mentions “breakfast included” which means they have a restaurant that serves a decent breakfast for about $10.00 (it is not free). I parked on the street near to the hotel without a problem but if you need a parking lot you’ll have to find a paid one a few blocks away.

Park in the neighborhood instead of paying for parking but watch the signs for no-parking times.

2 Star Gem, Great Staff !

I travel for personal business so price and comfort are key for me. I wish I had a hotel like this in every city I go to. The rooms are very clean, the most important part. The beds are comfortable and the service was more than friendly, it was a family run hotel and it shows. Anna, the owners' wife, made me a meal comparable to the best Mediterranean food I have had, anywhere. Prices range from 15-25$ VERY fair for the quality. I also opted for the 50% off breakfast, so 5$ later I ate like a king. After a good conversation and a few coffees, I felt like I was home. The rooms are comfortable (smallish, European style as they say!) and there isn't an elevator, two things I can live with for the price. One of the best locations in Montreal, even in the dead of a Canadian winter it was a delight to walk the 'vieux port de Montreal' only 3 minute walk away. Metro is very close, cheap taxi anywhere downtown. I was surprised on how quiet it was, barely any street traffic. 15$ indoor parking was very reasonable for Montreal, I never used my car really. A definite place to make a regular home away from home. Im in detail having actually been upset to read some of the other comments. Not everyone can be happy I guess, But if you want 4Stars pay 4 times the price to get a a few more feet in a room and a more modern decor, fine, but this compares on every other aspect for peanuts. Thanks, I mean MERCI! and see you this summer!

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

Saint-Denis street offers an ideal walk for the day, full of charming shops and restaurants. Saint-Laurent a party street from south to North, both in walking distance or a 7$ cab ride ( yes that close) Do not miss out on the old port, the cobble stone roads and architecture bring you back to another period of time.

All I did there was sleep and eat breakfast, yet the service was good, including an earlier than usual breakfast start so I could get my train.
