Cozy, charming hotel in the Arts Quarter

(TLDR Summary--Charming hotel, friendly staff, great area, absolutely worth the price) This was an adorable hotel that is two old, historic homes adjoined. The bad, then the good: This isn't really a big deal, but there were small holes in the walls of our room where curtain holders had been moved, and maybe where some wires used to come out. They hadn't been spackled or painted over. Again, not a big thing. The only other bad thing I had is the cleaning crew. They neatened our room just fine, and everything seemed clean. However, one of the days, it was as if they left the room suddenly, without finishing it. All of our soaps had been taken and not replaced, and a very damp towel (not ours, we hadn't showered yet that morning) was left on the dresser. Gross, but it only happened once. The good: The buildings are old houses, and they have kept the feel of being a guest in a friend's house--almost like a Bed and Breakfast. Breakfast was small but tasty. It's in a lovely, bright sitting room. They serve pastries, fruit, yogurt and cereals. Coffee and juices are also provided. As a nod to the area, the buildings are decorated with a few marble sculptures, and there are original pieces of art in the bedrooms. On the walls in the halls, there are also photos of previous owners--among them, the niece of the founder of Louisiana, and the first Quebecois Senator. The hotel itself is in a very cute area full of art galleries, amazing older buildings, and only a few blocks from the Fine Arts museum. We always felt quite safe walking at night in the area. The wifi wasn't the greatest, but it served just fine for email and light internet browsing. I wouldn't try to stream on it, though. All of the staff I encountered were very friendly and helpful. Overall, except for the towel incident, I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It was lovely, cozy, affordable, and in a great location.

Quick night away

We often stay at the Chateau Versailles, when we want to be closer to town. The location is convenient for walking around downtown. The hotel is very European and a lovely place to stay. The breakfast is understated and a good start to the day. The price is much less than other places in Montreal.

Nice One-Night Stay

Great hotel. We had a problem with the heating in our first room, but we had no trouble switching to a different room. Free continental breakfast but not much selection.

Nice little hotel in Montreal.

When we arrived, the doorman came down the stairs and brought our bags to the lobby then to our room. Staff was friendly and spoke English and French. They were always helpful arranging for a taxis and helped with phone calls that required French. The rooms were fairly tight but clean. Wifi was good. There is no elevator so please ask them if they have arrangements. Breakfast was continental, so there was no hot food, but it was by no means inadequate or small. Location is about 5 minutes walk from the Metro, 8 from Fine Arts, approximately 10 (with a little uphill) from the 747 airport bus stop. Perfectly located, really. We thought it was quite nice as long as you go in with the right expectations.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The multi-day transit passes are a good buy. You can get a 3-day for $6/day, same price as 2 one-way trips. Bus and train will take you almost anywhere you need to go.

Great Location

Staff was first class. free wi-fi is available in your room during your stay. the hotel is clean though carpet in the room could use a good shampooing. the location is a short walk to the metro and a nice walk to the museum of fine arts. there is no elevator so I wouldn't recommend it if you have limited mobility. if your flight (or train, etc) leaves later in the day or evening, they will hold your bags. great service and a pleasant experience. i would go back there.
