Arriving in the late evening after a long train journey, I had to stand at the reception desk and wait for confirmation that ... my room was clean and ready even though I had booked the room months in advance. I then found that the room was not so clean as well as tiny and the only window faced a large duct of some kind. I couldn't face this view for the next four days and nights, so I asked for a new room. (The first time I've ever done this!) The receptionist was a woman of very few words but did find a bigger and better room. Thereafter I noticed that receptionists spoke and smiled little. Indeed many staff were unfriendly. The hotel has potential but I wouldn't stay there again. I would try the Hyatt across the street from the museums and near very good shopping.

I expected at least to have friendly staff who cared when things weren't quite right. A smile or 2 would have been welcome. ... The coffee percolator was very nice but what a shame only milk sugar etc for one person. Out of the 3 day stay, the chamber maid got the replacements for cups, toiletries etc we used, right. The other days most were not replaced. The room at first sight looked comfortable and fresh but on inspection it was tired and in serious need of refurbishment, paint, wallpaper etc. In future we'll stick with the Hilton :)

The location is great , but for a Hotel that is supposed to have " European elegance and charm"...there were a few ... ingredients lacking. The basics : We hauled our own bags up to the room and never did find out if there was a way to adjust the heat/cool. We also forgot our toothpaste and asked the maid- sorry no toothpaste. Best Western has toothpaste (and razors too). We realize that times are tough , but parking is $25 a day whether you stay there or not - no breaks for guests. They also want to charge you $16.50 a day for wireless??? Please... even the seediest motel throws that in these days. I guess they are geared to the corporate traveller with an expense account to whom money is no object. Gym was pretty tired also - one cross trainer , one treadmill and some sad old weight machines that had seen better days.

Perfect location, where in Toronto we visit our son, see different beautiful places, ate at great restaurants, did plenty of ... shopping. One unusual thing was the rudeness of the staff the housekeeping was a sweet heart always wanted to help and make our stay pleasant, only 2 young guy ask us if we need a taxi, we have travel all over the world and this is the first time we were treated like if we were not paying for the service.

Not bad but not for business
Biz Traveller Oct 4, 2009
The good: The hotel is very central to downtown and just one block from a subway station which makes getting anywhere in ... Toronto a snap. The hotel staff were, with one exception, very polite and professional. The rooms were clean and I had a small balcony. Although the view was not nice, it's nice to get fresh air in your room. The Bad: Wireless is very expensive and very poor quality. Don't bother trying to use the Internet from your room. I had to walk down the hall to check my email. I spoke with a few other guests who shared my frustration. The restaurant is horrible and very expensive. Just skip it. There is loads of good food just a short walk away.

when we check in there was no more non smoking room available. So they put us in the somking room which had a terrible ... smoking smell. But we understand that sometimes thing happen so we stayed in the smoking rooms for the first night. Also we don't have kid so it's ok. and then the next day they change the rooms for us to non-smoking. This hotel is pretty good. Nice decorating and organized room with a reasonable price. If we go to toronto again we will book this hotel again.

Chi Girl Aug 14, 2009
I did appreciate that the hotel was in a good location, however, some of the hotel staff were not very helpful in giving me ... information on cheap local transportation (they only recommended cabs which had a $4.00 base rate), and they seemed to be annoyed when my phone automatically connected me to the front desk when I tried to check my messages. Other than that, there were no vending machines in the building, internet as well as local phone calls costs extra, and the hotel restaurant did not have a very extensive menu.

The hotel experience was great, and the staff was cordial and professional. We had one problem; the initial room we got ... was very noisy when people took a shower in the adjacent rooms, just horrible. I formally complained to the front desk and was given a quieter room with a bigger bed at no-charge. That won me over.
