Not worth the price

The location for the Hotel is amazing and there is a lot of stuff to do around. However, the rooms are pretty small and the moments inside the room are completely restricted. Also, there are no tables in case you plan to work. You will ahve to stick to your bed and work sitting on it. Though the hotel charges a lot for the WiFi connection $30 for a week, the connection is pathetic. Is would say a nice place to stay if you are planning to be in the room for sleeping purposes. For working or for business purposes, not recommended at all.

Downtown Toronto Hideaway

The Strathcona is nestled in the Heart of Toronto, only a block's walk from the ViaRail Train Station. It was a central location to entertainment, sightseeing etc. Hotel was clean and the best I can say about the waitstaff is that they stayed out of the way. WiFi was paid @ 3Days for $20 (1 day $10). OK Omlette breakfast. Tucked away downtown with view of another wall of the hotel for many rooms. Rooms were small, but comfortable and seemed to have been updated within the last 4 years. I would stay there again at the price.

Nightlife tip: Long walk from hotel

The REX Jazz and Blues Bar in the REX Hotel had two sets on Wednesday Night and seemed to have someone playing live music every night of the week. Check out "The Second City" comedy stage. You can get half-price tickets at T.O.TIX, which is a long walk from the Strathcona.

Convenient downtown location

The Strathcona is very convenient to Union Station and the entertainment district of downtown Toronto. Our room was on the small size, but quite adequate for two people, and had been recently renovated with hardwood floors and a flat screen TV, one of the best that I have seen in a mid range hotel. The staff were helpful, the dining room Ok. The hotel is clean with limited facilities, great value for a short stay.

Great Location, Decent Hotel

We were only in Toronto for two days, so we really wanted to be a centralized location to touristy things. While the rooms were small and beds were small, they were clean and neat and provided a good place to crash at the end of the day. The location was great! It was just a short walk to the Hockey Hall of Fame, the CN Tower, a few really nice parks and Kensington Market wasn't all that far (we walked). It was also close to a coffee shop and a bunch of restaurants. We didn't have to cab at all, but they were plentiful in the area if you are there longer and wanted to venture out further. Overall a decent room in a great location. Major downsides for me were the lack of a chain lock on the doors, while you could turn on the a/c, it would turn on and off throughout the night and was fairly noisy, the beds were not super comfortable. But, I guess you get what you pay for because we got a really good deal through Orbitz. Also, it looks like they have plans for some renovations, so it may improve throughout the rest of 2009.

small but clean

great downtown location, easy to walk to many main attractions. clean beds but i wanted to use the fitness room but i'm not going to pay $20 for half an hour of workout. the soap and shampoo was awful so bring your own. the servicing of rooms is great. i didnt like the hard wood floors but my husband did. the tv was older than other hotels we've stayed in but it was a decent size and got decent channels. there are not many areas to set things down and no where to sit except the bed. its not a room to hang out in. mostly just for sleeping. the shower was great. the walls are very thin so you hear your neigbors coming and going and when they use the toilet and the closet rod, so if they get up earlier or go down later than you do you hear it and it can wake you up. we were there end of november and the room was very warm even without use of the heater in fact we had to use the cooler a few times so we could sleep even though outside was below freezing! there is no parking for the hotel you have to find an underground parking yourself and pay for all the hours your car is there. it wasnt too bad but if the garage is far from your hotel it can be a pain.

nice no frills hotel

Would've given it a higher review but the hotel had no parking. Not a bad hotel. Room was small but clean. Heating unit was very picky. Went from freezing cold to so hot you couldn't stand it. Hotel is in a great part of the city.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't go anywhere near The Loose Moose. Rude unhelpful staff. Put the wrong order in for me. Girlfriend asked for chicken to be added to her salad. Waitress had an attitude and said she had to check with the kitchen. To her surprise the kitchen said it wouldn't be a problem. Service was very slow, drinks were overpriced and my burger was beyond well done. Stay away.
