Very small rooms

The Hotel Victoria was very close to the downtown attractions. The check-in clerk was very rude and had a very bad attitude. The lobby was small and was in need of face lift. It was very dark and dingy. The rooms, although very clean and decorated very well, were extremely small, as was the bathroom. We checked out extremely early because the room had no place to sit other than on the bed. I would never stay at this hotel again.

Ok For Sleeping

I stayed one night at the Hotel Victoria while on business in Toronto from the US. I checked in late around 12:30 in the morning and was really just there for the night to sleep. My room was on the 6th floor and the ice and beverage machines were in the basement and to my dismay the soda machine only took Canadian money which I had none of. Nothing was mentioned to me by the front desk about these nuances. Also my TV remote did not function. Wanted to extent my checkout to around 3 or 4 in the afternoon at which time I was informed that I would have to pay for a full night as with other hotels there is usually an option to pay for half a day. The location was good for my purpose of a business meeting right down the block but there are many other nicer hotels in downtown Toronto for a comparable price with better execution of simple amenities. One last thing, I did find the room to be a tad on the small side. If you just need a bed for the night this is well priced option but if are with others or will be staying a while or don't want to trudge your ice from the basement, don't stay at the Hotel Victoria.

Hotel needs upgrades

The 1st room we were put in was not so great... wallpaper coming off, paintings almost falling off the wall, bathtub stopped up, and views of dingy hotel rooftop. We went to complain and they couldn't upgrade us that night due to no vacancy but did upgrade us the next morning to a slightly (very slighlty) bigger room with an upgraded shower (though very tight shower). Still no views though since the buliding is old and surrounded by other buildings. We appreciated the upgrade but wouldn't stay there again.

Cozy, Quaint and Comfortable

I went to Toronto for a conference at the Convention Centre on Front Road the location of the hotel was perfect a nice short walk. The room was small but since it was only me it wasn't a problem. The lobby was a bit run down and the tap in the bathroom dripped and drained all night but I just closed the bathroom door and solved to bothersome noise. The adjoined Breakfast and Lunch restaurant was nice but a bit pricey. The Hotel is Old but quaint and very affordable. Very close to the subway

The down low on Hotel Victoria

* upon arrival the hotel lobby did not appear clean * the only elevator did not have a fan in it, and the light to the 7th floor did not light up when pressed * the night clerk was very unfriendly, we attempted several times to get a cracked ice bucket replaced with no luck until our last night * we requested a late check out and was granted an additional 2 hours * great location...easy walking distance to the subway or major attractions * room was cozy but clean, unfortunately we did not have a good view

Bargain hotel

The only real complaint that I had was that the beds were small and tilted a bit. The bathroom was modern except for some peeling walpaper. Great location, effecient staff, great price.

Clean; dark, ugly window scene

I expressed disappointment at horrible view from room window. Was told that was because I had booked a twinbedded room. How was I to know that twin beds means horrible view from window? Met resistance on last day getting statement from desk. Wanted documentation that I hadn't charged anything extra. Eventually they gave me a statement. It shouldn't have been such a hassle.

Not as nice as I remember

We had just stayed at Hotel Victoria six weeks ago and had a great experience. This time, the standard room I booked turned out to have two twin beds -- instead of the two doubles we had in June for the same price (granted, this trip was on a weekend, while our June trip was mid-week). Also, the elevator (there's only one) had a nasty squeak that was loud and irritating enough to have been developing for some time. Still a clean, comfortable hotel with good amenities (especially breakfast at the adjacent Over Easy, which was wonderful), but watch what you're getting when you book the room.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

The Distillery District is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. It's a fairly new conversion of an industrial district, and it's full of restaurants, cafes, galleries and shops. The Soulpepper Theatre Company is marvelous.

Quaint Downtown Toronto Hotel

Great location and very friendly, helpful staff. Within walking distance to most major Toronto attractions, e.g., Rogers Center, Hockey Hall of Fame. Small downside was that we stayed on the 2nd floor in room on Yonge St. Noise from subway and pedestrians somewhat distracting. Another positive is the Over Easy restaurant that is connected to the hotel. (I believe it's a separate establishment, but it is entered from the hotel lobby.) In any event, had a great breakfast, with excellent service, at a reasonable price. All in all, would definitly stay there again. If you're looking for a hotel in a great location, without all the frills, this could be for you.
