Disappointment

We had wanted to stay right downtown but there was nothing available. We found this hotel through Cheap Tickets deals and they advertised themselves as "within walking distance". It could be walked if you wanted to go for a hike and had the time. In reality we still had to drive, but parking downtown was easy, though not cheap. The hotel is adjacent to a busy four way intersection with a 24/7 gas station/mini-mart next door. There is a Tim Horton's across the street (as advertised) next door to a low brow bar that was loud. Overall it was a very noisy location. The room was reasonably clean but smelled bad and the AC was loud enough to drown most of the outside noise. The desk clerk was quite unkempt, but pleasant and responsive. She spoke to the employer of the workman (hotel guests) drinking in the back of the pick up truck (because it was too hot in their room) parked outside our room when we checked in. She also called the service provider when the free WI-FI wouldn't connect, loaned a cork screw for our bottle of wine, and found a lighter for the scented candle we had to buy for the room. (I assume that was probably a fire code violation buy us, but the smell was that bad and we certainly blew the candle out before retiring for the night.) The continental breakfast was a bad joke. Cold bad coffee, watery orange juice, and tasteless factory mini-muffins. The first day there were also little croissants and jelly, but like the muffins, not very tasty and not worth the calories. We were able to find good breakfast options in the Byward Market. a short drive away. Though a relative value given the Ottawa market price and being relatively close to downtown, I would not recommend this place unless you need to be close and only need a bed, which was okay by my standards, uncomfortable according to my wife. I wish I had read between the lines more of the previous reviews. This is an old, tired hotel. In hindsight, I would have paid more and stayed further out (like the Doubletree in Gatineau) as it would have been worth a pleasant, quiet location with some amenities such as edible food, a pool and fitness facilities. We still had to drive anyways and driving in Ottawa didn't seem to be bad. Its easy to avoid rush hour if you are on vacation.

Many food options at Byward Market for breakfast, lunch or dinner. A variety of sidewalk cafes and pubs. D'arcy McGees Pub, close to Parliament/downtown, was a nice late evening dinner. Food and service were very good and moderately priced.

Cheap but not cheerful

The only things going for this hotel is it's relatively cheap price and easy access to the downtown and Parliament Hill. The hotel is badly in need of repair and renovation. Apart from certain entrances to ground floor, it was not wheelchair accessible (important to us). The continental breakfast was very limited. The coffee was decent. The staff were helpful and quick to respond when we encountered problems. The couple travelling with us had to change rooms because of machinery noise and bad smells.

Fantastic Value for Money!!

Clean, great staff and quiet location. It's close to the downtown area, with free parking and free wifi. I got a free room upgrade upon arrival as well. Value for money truly doesn't get any better than this hotel. If you're looking for quiet, clean, inexpensive accommodations, this place is for you!

Typical Hotel

Regular Comfort Inn. A bed. A TV. All that was needed. Maybe a 15-20min walk from Parliament but a quick drive. Very overpriced, however, were there for the Canada Day weekend so I guess it's understandable.
