seemed to be understaffed, and could be since it was Christmas. The room was not in the main tower, hard to believe its rated ... as a 4 star???? Just not the best hotel stay for sure, adequate at best. maybe being in building would have been ok, requested adjoining rooms..not available..will look else where next time for sure. The pool was nice, but not spotless.

The location is outstanding! Right next to the Falls. Even the non-view rooms can get a good view from the overlook ... balconies. Very good quality place. and they did not charge the outragious $20 parking fee that the other local hotels add to your bill.

The room needed some updating. The carpeting was in need of a major cleaning. Both of the chairs in the room showed wear on ... the arms and one of the chairs had a large tear in it. There wasn't any information in the room regarding the hotel or surrounding area.

Carlos Sep 8, 2009
The hotel was fantastic. The staff was very friendly. Check-ins are at 3:00pm, but we arrived earlier, the lady in the front ... desk gave us the room right away and it help cause we had time to do some rides at the niagara falls. The rooms were very clean, the view from our room was perfect we couldn't ask for more. The one thing we didn't like at all was the pool area, it wasn't as clean as we thought. I will recommend this hotel to anyone.

I was not thrilled
JM Aug 31, 2009
The staff gave misinformation. Housekeeping never got to my room befor 4:00. They are too busy cleaning the "check-outs". ... After a full day of sightseeing that was not pleasant. Vieww of the falls was limited. You have to pay more to go over the 8th floor to see the falls. Available tours from the tour desk were limited. I did better at the Visitors Center, elsewhere.

Great View if above the 5th floor
Luc Lu Aug 31, 2009
The view from my room was spectacular I was on the 7th floor anything below that is not worth your while. However there are ... viewing areas on higher floors where you can see the falls, both sides, and the fireworks and lights. The staff was ok do not go before check in time because you will have to wait but they do have a concierge who will hold your bags at no fee. The best place for breakfast is Perkins, it's two streets over from the front of the hotel. There is an Applebees downstairs and casinos on both sides of the street. We had a wonderful time we did Maid of the mist, journey behind the falls, white water rapids and a 3D movie of the creation of the falls. I suggest that you buy the package at the foot of the hill which gives you 4 sites and 2 all day passes on the people mover bus. All in all we had a great trip and we would stay at the Oakes again.

The location of the Hotel is GREAT, But..... We wanted to see the Falls from our room, that's why we paid more for a "FALLS ... VIEW ROOM".. But when we checked in we were on the 3rd floor and couldn't see anything but the parking lot and trees. We asked for another room higher, and they said they were all booked, VERY UNHAPPY for the price we paid :(

Maria Aug 16, 2009
We were surprised to find out the hotel charged for parking, $15/day. The fitness center was closed for upgrades but I don't ... think they should have completely shut it down. At least they compensated us for half the parking charges when we complained about the gym being closed during our stay. The pool area was unbearably hot, small and not too clean. The rooms were pretty clean however, but small. We had upgraded to a fallside room but our view of the falls was completely blocked by trees so there was no point to the upgrade. I would recommend staying in a different hotel for anyone considering. Of course if all one needs is a place to sleep and shower, then go for it.

The biggest disappointement
Upset Jul 28, 2009
We booked the room based on the star rating of this hotel. On checking in, we were given rooms in a separate 2 stry block ... which was worse than a cheap dirty motel. When we complained they blamed Oritz. However we could change only one room by paying extra. Orbit people should inspect the hotels before reservations. With visitors from the U.K. it was one of the worst niagra vists for me.

Do Not go to the 3-D movie - it is a rip-off and a total disgrace to the good name of Niagara Falls. I had just seen an IMAX movie in Zion Nat'l Park that was excellent so I decided to try the 3-D one - big mistake. The Canadian side of the Falls is a huge carnival and cheapens the spectacular beauty of the natural wonder. Canada is EXPENSIVE - I think I paid for their health care system.
--mojo, Laramie, WY Jul 22, 2009
The inclined railway is a $2 "short-cut" to the rim of the falls. The Journey Behind the falls is worth every penny.

Get a multipass. Orbitz offers one, but for Maid of the Mist and cave of the Winds you have to use them on the US side. On the US side park at the Aquarium to get your US side tickets and leave it there.

If you're looking for a bar/night life while staying in the "falls view" there is none. I heard you may have better luck in the Clifton Hill section but in the area I stayed in, nothing was open to enjoy a few drinks.
--Jen, Philadelphia, PA Jun 18, 2009
Take the incline railroad down to the falls. It is right behind the hotel and it is cheap. If you don't it is a long walk all the way around to get to the Falls.
--Clark Griswald, New Orleans Jun 10, 2009
Except for the Falls and its attractions, if you want to see Ripley's Believe it or not or those type of attractions you are going to walk. These are on Clifton Hill which is about 1- 1-1/2 miles from the hotel. My wife and I did not care. We left the car at the Hotel and walk everywhere. It was not an unbareable walk.
