THE place to stay at Niagara Falls

I always say I don't want to spend my days away from home and work inside a hotel. So, why should I pay for it? At The Oakes, I was walking distance from the Falls, restaurants, casinos and everything I wanted. I went to sleep with the sound of the crushing falls and a view that could have easily cost twice what I paid. BTW, one can take great pictures of Niagara Falls from the room's window on the Falls side of the hotel. Next time I'm in the NF Ontario, I won't even look at other places.

The view does not get any better than this!

We booked a fall-view room and cannot be happier with the scenic view just outside of the window. The hotel, while small, is perched on the best spot that overlooks both the American and Canadian Niagara Falls. There are a few cons, but the view really makes up for all of the little irksome issues: 1. The bathroom is a little shabby 2. The coffee maker is difficult to operate (leakage everywhere!) 3. The window sill is dusty (if the hotel boasts a fall view, they should know their customers will open the curtain and will see a dusty window)

When we went, the hotel has a "Gourmet Package" in promotion. Dinner and breakfast for two at 69 dollars (plus tax) is totally worth it. We didn't drive so was unable to benefit from the winery tasting voucher but it is a good deal.

Gastly

I thought all rooms were the same, just different views. I was put in the 'courtyard', though 'dungeon' is a better word. It is not part of the tower. A 'flea bag' hotel is being kind, though I saw no bugs at least. I paid $79 for the room which was $40 too much. The Comfort Inn across the street looked like a palace in comparison. The walls were paper thin, and a neighbours flushing sounded like a freight train. The furniture was very old, the bed uncomfortable.

Perfect location, near all attractions

I wanted to see Niagara Falls for a very long time. I finally booked the trip and went on my own. I truly enjoyed my stay at the Oakes Hotel, the staff was friendly. The pool was a bit small so if you want to make a big splash, this is not the pool for it. They offered no continental breakfast which I think would have been great. This was my first trip to Canada and I would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to see Niagara Falls for themselves. This experience is even better when shared with a special someone or your family.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The hotel is in the perfect place, you can walk and get on a train rail that takes you down for a very small fee. Once your down there, you can do some sightseeing on your own, shop at the many shops available or purchase one of many great discount packagesavailable to see a few "must see sights" on your trip.

Oakes Hotel

Check-in was no problem and everything went smoothly. The front desk attendants were prompt and kind. If you arrive by car, be aware they will charge you an additional $15 per day to park your car in their lot. Courtyard rooms do not have a mini-fridge so if you plan on keeping drinks in you room, bring a cooler if you also want to use the sink at the same time. The hotel itself is a five minute walk to the casino and a five minute drive to the LCBO. Opposite the casino is The Keg, a fantastic steakhouse. The horseshoe falls is about a twelve minute walk, and from there it's real close to Clifton Hill. Unless you plan on going somewhere far for dinner, 95% of your traveling will be on foot and the Oakes hotel is a good place to return. The Observation deck on the 14th floor is air conditioned and has really comfortable overstuffed chairs and is a good place to drink and watch the falls lit up at night. (the falls turn off at midnight) The biggest plus I found about this hotel was the lack of bedbugs. I know there is a real big bedbug problem in hotels around this area but especially in New York and this hotel did not show up on the bedbug registry. Upon checking in, I did a thorough inspection of my room and did not find a single bug. These rooms are clean and I did not have to worry about bringing bedbugs back home with me.

It's Alright

I was kind of scared about my experience here at the Oakes Hotel, based on other reviews. But overall I would say that it was ok. The location was very good-close to the falls and resturant. The room was cleaner than what the reviews said. However, I didn't like the parking fees that had to be paid. I also didn't like the fact that there was no refrigerator and you had to pay for internet. The lack of linen grinded my gears too. Besides that, my experience was good...
