My experience at the Oakes Hotel Overlooking the Falls
We really loved the room with the amazing view of the falls on the 20th floor. Location if awesome right at the heart of the strip. Room was nice but needed some updates, like window treatments needed some repair (broken), spider webs. Very close to the falls within walking distance. However, parking is expansive $15 per day + tax and the check out fee LOL (never heard of check out fee before) right next to the hotel there was a Casino parking for $5, next time definitely will park there seems a lot cheaper. The indoor pool is very little. Next door there is an amazing restaurant KEG that serves very good food. Also staff is all right, however my wife had forgotten her bracelet in the room that was very special to her; we were rushing in the morning to get to the airport, she took it off right before bed; in the morning when we left the hotel she realized that she had left it in the room and we called hotel several times to see if it was found. However response was that they looked for it but didn't find it. Who would give gold bracelet back with diamonds, of course they will say that they did not find it or did not see it!!! I wouldn't think that bracelet had grown legs and just disappeared on its own. So if you forget things in your room consider that you will never get it back since people just take it and never will tell you that they found it. Hope this info helps and hope you have a nice trip at the Niagara Falls

Our Niagara Vacay
This is an important review so please pay attention: When we arrived, we were placed in a room with a gaping hole in the ceiling, yellowed and moldy ceiling around it, torn comforters, view of the parking lot (NOT courtyard, as stated) and very small. With that kind of misrepresentation, we expected courtesy upgrading without question. Instead, we paid to upgrade to a room that ended up being beautiful, with perfect view of the Falls. I would recommend you direct your customers to stay away from anything but Fallsview and even then, you need to check on your arrangements with the Oakes, because there were many people down at the front desk complaining as we came/went from property. We witnessed a very hostile staff tell a woman to "get out" because she was complaining about the same kind of room we originally had! If our room hadn't been available, (and we were able, just barely, to afford it!), then there would have been a HUGE problem on everybody's hands! Hard to be negative since we ended up with a good room but I'm terrified of making reservations for another trip, in case this happens to us again! I was in tears and freaking out because, when I called the front desk from our first room, they took an hour to even get back with me. Do we need to contact hotels ourselves for room descriptions? That doesn't seem to be rational! Thanks, Linda & Steve Wampler

Money-saving tip:
Not Applicable
Be prepared to rent a car and pay $15/night to park in your hotel; otherwise, you have no choice but to buy a package "deal" that forces you to use transportation that you can't even access unless you pay fees to get TO that transportation! City buses accessible but do NOT take you to the Falls or anything on the Niagara parkway. Very important to know this going into it! Plan for out of pocket!

Couldn't beat this view!!!
We spent 3 nights here hotel was clean, very clean fOr the Price! THE VIEW was remarkable well worth the price of the room. It was a walk to Clifton hills were most of the family activities were but we made it twice it wasn't bad. They did have a few hidden fees 16.95$ per night for parking which they told me was only going to 15$ at check in. The room had no mini fridge they apparently had some that we're for rent but they were all rented out when we arrived didn't verify a price, but we just went to the LCBO bought two reusable grocery bags and filled them with ice to keep the drinks cold.

Not Picky Just Honest
Honest Reviewer
I got 2 rooms, 1 for me and 1 for a friend. Turns out because he arrived earlier he got upgraded to a better room, which if you were the credit card holder you'd be disappointed too. This hotel is not worth the amount I paid, trust me when I say pay a little more for a better experience. I would consider the Oakes to be an 'upscale' motel and I certainly wouldn't stay there again. You can't expect great things from a 3 star hotel but at least the staff was great!

best location
The location is unmatched for viewing Horseshoe Falls, but the furniture was visibly worn (this is an old hotel) and the staff was only marginally helpful.

Happy about my VACATION
BEST VIEW OF THE FALLS!!
Our view was absolutely fantastic, I couldnt close the curtains except for at 5am, when the sun rises. it getss really bright! We were on the 12 floor and you could see all of the falls. No frills at the hotel, but everything was within walking distance, or shuttle. It was clean and comfortable. All hotel personnel was pleasant. I was afraid because of the some of the comments I read before we went, but I was pleasantly suprised!! Lovely vacation.

Short drive from hotel
ALL dining, directly around the falls is REALLY EXPENSIVE, if you just drive a short distance in any direction, you can find delicious and very reasonably priced food!

Courtyard rooms are terrible
Didn't realize that couryard rooms would be so bad. The room was maintained very poorly, the beds were very old, no wi-fi connection. I was not even able to upgrade to another room that easy. They asked for $100 more to upgrade to another better room. I am giving a 1 star purely for the location. Not too far from the falls.

Fixer upper?
This hotel appears to be in a state of remodel. The alleyway to the parking area is dirty and lined with dumpsters. The hallways are ratty and need some TLC. The rooms are very nice and very clean. The location is excellent in that it is very close to the falls.

unusable shower
Not a good experience at all! I could not have my child use the shower for 5 nights that I was staying in this place! I got burned myself multiple times using the shower,I called to report the problem with the shower they said they will send someone to fix the problem tomorrow ,I used the shower again the same problem, I called them again the other staff member told me that this part of hotel is a shared facility and water pressure changes when they use the water.I asked them to change my room but they said we can change your room within the same floor but it will still have the same problem or you have to pay $210 for a 3 night upgrade to another floor! The hallways were not clean in this place .The service was completely not acceptable. The management is not honest cause when I talked tomy trip manager regarding my experience they contacted them and they said they offered me a room with no prblem but I did not accept,That's not true!
