Lovely, historic building, inn well-run and friendly
When I was looking for a place to stay overnight in Cobourg, Ontario, The Woodlawn Inn intrigued me. It's in an old, historic building (built in 1835, as I recall). It was located conveniently close to the train station and was a pleasant three or so blocks to King Street, where many businesses and the town hall are located. The staff was very accommodating, allowing me to check in a bit earlier than normal since my train had arrived early in the day. They were friendly and solicitous, making sure that I felt welcome and comfortable there. The building seems to be very well maintained, and the old brick structure and the beautiful interior wood and chandeliers gave it the character that an historic building deserves. My room was very pleasant and clean with a nice view onto the back gardens. The breakfast was generous - good range of choices, and my cheese omelet was delicious. There's a restaurant and bar as well, and though I didn't use them, I heard from some locals that it's an excellent place to dine. I would highly recommend the Woodlawn Inn and would definitely stay there again.
