Gower House Downtown Rooms
- R1 Queen Shared Bath Spacious
- Well appointed room, second floor, remote control color cable tv, air conditioned in season, individual temperature control, opening window, ample lighting.
- R34 Cosy Double or Queen
- 3rd floor. Extreme quality bedding and linens. Color cable television, quiet. Room is cozy
- R5 Queen Loft Room, Views
- Loft room 4th floor with small sofa. Lots of windows. Bathroom with shower. Views to the east, west and south. Not for somebody having problems with stairs. Cctv, temperature control, air conditioned in season.
- Offsite Overflow Double/Queen
- Self serve continental breakfast, spacious with access to kitchen, living room, dining room. Wireless Internet.

Very satisfied
My first night in St. John's, I stayed at Holiday Inn, which turned out to be a $12 cab ride away from downtown. I took a risk with Gower House, which was around half the price (I was a single traveler, got the "cozy" room), and was glad that I did. Super location a block from downtown and an internet cafe (Mocha Cafe)! It's in a historic-looking house, but my room was clean and looked like it had been newly renovated (nice fixtures). I especially appreciated what the bathroom was stocked with (shaving cream, Listerine). Breakfast was simple, but good!

There are better out there
We were moved from the upstairs suite to a tiny room, even though we were there for three nights. The breakfasts were not great, very average. The owner was not friendly and warm. He answered questions but we just didn't get warm fuzzies from this place.

Long walk from hotel
Ches's for fish and chips. It's the opposite direction from the bars on George's St. but worth it. Takes about 15 minutes to walk.

regular grayhaired travellers
OK but lacking welcome
We were in Saint John's for professional reasons but also for a little vacation. The b&b was very conveniently located and generally clean and comfortable, but the staff were monosyllabic and unsmiling and seemed to pay more attention to the constantly visiting neighbors and relatives (watching TV in the reception room!) than to their B&B clientele (I believe they were Russian and seemed unfamiliar with how to welcome people.) The breakfast was poor -- fried slabs of baloney and greasy overfried eggs with no garnish of any kind, limited range of fruit and only processed sliced bread (no scones, muffins or fresh unsliced bread). OK range of cereal and yoghurt. The telephone in our room didn't work properly and the staff showed little concern about that. Also, breakfast was only available between 8 and 9 am. Since my husband's conference began at 8 am he had to miss breakfast -- staff were not willing to make breakfast earlier.

Quaint
An interesting bed and breakfast. The manager was helpful and wanted to make sure guest were comfortable. Within easy walking distance of downtown.
