Perfect for location

We wanted to be right downtown but not spend a ton of money. This place was perfect! The waterslide, pool and hot tub were an added bonus. The staff at the Regal Beagle were pretty awesome and Randi at the front desk answered all of my 48 questions. Within walking distance of a bunch of clubs and bars. We'll stay again!

Very hard to rate this hotel

The only description that fits is "elegantly shabby". The place needs an owner who will take advantage of its grand architecture and turn it into a 5-star venue. It's very well located at the crossroads of the city and a block away from the Hockey arena. The room was quite large and the beds were comfortable. Mediocre cafe but free breakfast. There was nothing to really dislike and for the price, it's a good deal. Just know when you book it that it's not the Ritz.

Bad

I've been to a number of hotels before, but this IS the worst ever. "Suite" had pull out that looked like it had NEVER had the sheet changed! Full of dirt, garbage, and I dont know what else! Overall bad and never again

Character for a bargain

In town for a Tragically Hip concert. Stayed at the Marlborough before and convinced two buddies to give it a shot. We all thought it was handy, clean enough and strong on character. Not top flight but decent.

Worst experience ever

Very bad customer service - waited for the ladies behind the counter to finish their conversations before I could check in. Many random people 'hanging' out throughout the hotel. Carpets very dirty in hallways. Room was just plain scary - lights did not work, room had not been updated for 15+ years. I do NOT recommend travelers to choose this hotel unless you are looking for a dirty downtown hotel where you could probably run into trouble.

Not very good...

When we arrived at the hotel they first gave us a one bed room. I explained to the front desk we had paid for a two bed...when we got to our new room we were very disappointed. The bathroom smelled of urine and the toilet and bathtub had not been cleaned. The manager ended up coming to our room around 10:30 pm to clean the urine off the floor. The bar in the hotel is nice but we will not be staying here again. There are plenty of other hotels in the area.

Beware!

Started with when we called for shuttle from airport to hotel: NO SHUTTLE! Has not been for 6 mths. Not told when we confirmed with hotel the week before. Reserved an upgrade room w/king, w/city view. Got a room w/standard bed and view of 5 story parking garage. Bathtub plugged! Notified front desk, 2 hrs. later maid called and finally got someone. 2 1/2 hrs. later finally unplugged! Warned not to go out walking at night because of high crime.Security in all businesses and on streets. Had no problems but didn't push it.People in the restaurants and Lounge very friendly and helpful. Made the stay enjoyble. To bad for the location and condition of room.Did not complain about room because we did not find any bed bugs and where afraid if we did we would get a room with the little critters! Mold around windows, peeling paint and wind blowind in around window. -22 with wind chill factor!I travel with my husband while he is on business and like to walk and see the city we are visiting:(

Threadbare

The room was quiet, clean, and odor-free. All staffers were polite. The bed was comfortable. The front desk staff were friendly and did their best to be helpful, although they instructed me to take a bus on a non-existent route to get to the airport. Negatives were no airport shuttle, no heat, sudden swings in shower temperature between scalding and freezing, jack-rabbit elevators that quickly taught me to leap for the elevator door as soon as it opened, availability of ice only on alternate floors, and a general atmosphere of the threadbare. As in other decaying businesses, there was at least one sign of petty dishonesty: I came in for the free breakfast, accepted an immediate offer of coffee, and, only after I said yes, was informed that the coffee was not free. After the waiter brought breakfast, he disappeared and I got the rest of what I needed from another staffer: fork, knife, napkin, and water. There were no raisins for the oatmeal, but I've often encountered that limitation, and the waiter had brought some granola instead, which worked fine.

Really friendly staff who went

Really friendly staff who went out of their way for us when we didn't expect it. The hotel's a little dated itself, but the staff made it a great stay.

BED BUGS....BEWARE OF THIS HOTEL!!!

- BED BUGS, BED BUGS, BED BUGS! Need I say more?We lasted 12 hours in this hotel before we found the bugs at midnight, had to re-pack our 12 suitcases (with NO Bell Boy or serivce to help us bring the bags back down). When I told the front desk, the Supervisor said (word for word), "oh...did you find a bug in bed?", I said yes, and he said, "Oh...yeah..I thought so".THIS DISGUSTING PLACE KNEW THEY HAD BUGS AND RENTED THE ROOM OUT ANYWAYS!We had to bring all our bags downstairs amidst rowdy drunks in the bar downstairs who were screaming and throwing beer bottles all over. I had to leave my mother alone at the car while I brought 12 suitcases downstairs MYSELF (because the hotel conveniently couldn't find a cart or a bell boy to help me). We had to drive around a strange city at 2am to find another hotel who would accept pets. This hotel also had the added luxuries of a bathroom that hasn't been upgraded for 90 years, old nasty carpets, mattresses with holes, a steaming hot room with windows that don't open, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, cigarette smell that permeates every single item in the room, electrical outlet splitters with multiple cords coming out (VERY unsafe), and loud banging that went on for hours, and was still going on for hours after we checked out. This hotel cost me $50 in laundry costs for the 8 loads of our clothing that had to be immediately washed, new suitcases that had to be bought immediately and Raid.HORRIBLE, HORRIBLEE, HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE![...]
