Ramada Winnipeg Hotel- Viscount-Gort

This is my second stay. First time found the hallway carpets to be a bit dirty and I had a couple other carps. Decided to give it another shot and glad I did. This hotel is ideally located, <10 min. drive from YWG and downtown. The lobby is smart and desk personnel competent. The room was spacious. The hotel is old enough that it has (for me) an under-sized bathroom. It was OK in the 80's, but today I seek amenities such as step-in showers. Nonetheless, it sufficed, with plenty of nice towels and toiletries. The closet is miserable, with sliding doors. Total opening is apx. 36", but to access it you slide one of the panels in front of the other, leaving you 18" to access. There are those silly hangers which hook into eyelets on the bar (who the heck would be interested in stealing hangers?). The TV has not been upgraded to the flat panel but is fine, with ample channels. Climate control is good. The queen beds are comfortable, with four pillows provided for each. As with most hotels, there are not enough electrical outlets to deal with modern man's cell phones, computers and peripherals. The room had its own iron and ironing board. Local phone calls are included at no extra charge, but WATS calls are $1 apiece. The gym room is a joke, with four or five machines. To be fair, few hotels have decent work-out facilities. I haven't tried the pool, but it seems to be a great place for kids. The non-stop elevator ride from the lobby to the 6th floor is about 20 seconds, excruciatingly slow. However, there appear to be at least four elevators spaced around the hotel. Winnipeg newspaper is available at the front desk daily. Parking is no extra charge, and there is plenty of it. Much is under cover, but the open spaces are right there, a short walk to the lobby. I haven't tried the restaurant/bar. Total cost for most nights, with the ridiculous Canadian taxes, is about $115CAN. One wouldn't choose this hotel for a romantic getaway, but I like it and have made it "my" hotel when staying in Winnipeg

viscount gord hotel was great!espacially after all that shopping for the holidays.you get to go to the bar and relax and enjoy a good scenerary.and the location is great near a shopping mall.
