Chic, modern accommodations in a historic downtown boutique hotel

The Moda is part of Vancouver's history, but there's nothing old-fashioned about its contemporary decor and modern amenities. Some of Vancouver's top interior designers created the sophisticated look of the guest rooms. High-quality linens, flat-screen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi also help create a contemporary atmosphere in this heritage hotel. The downtown location, close to shopping, sightseeing, and business venues, allows for a good old-fashioned stroll or catching the ultra modern skytrain to get where one needs to go.

Highlights
  • Heritage building updated and modernized for contemporary comfort
  • Beautiful Uva Wine Bar on the premises
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access
Rooms

Modern decor is expertly blended with the historic nature of this intimate hotel. Built in 1908, the updated and remodeled contemporary space still showcases exposed 100-year-old mosaic-tile floors in the lobby and bathrooms, 80-year-old hardwood floors and the original lobby ceiling with dramatic crown moldings. But the sleek palette with bold accents, ultra-modern furnishings and flat-screen televisions are anything but old. Linens with high thread counts, specialized Skoah skincare products, and free Wi-Fi Internet access also keep guests in the current century.

Features

Experience a little bit of Vancouver's history while staying in modern comfort in the heart of the entertainment and culture district. Walk to the Vancouver Art Gallery or the BC Place stadium. Take a short cab ride to Robson Street's world-class shopping and dining. Ride Canada Line's excellent public transportation to get nearly anywhere in the city and beyond. The hotel's serene and stylish Uva Wine Bar offers top wines, cocktails and imported beers. Cibo Trattoria, next door to the hotel, offers Italian fare made with fresh and local ingredients.

Vancouver Trip

The hotel had nice restaurants and a wine bar. Room was bit tired. The shower did not have much in the way of water pressure. The AC-heater was a bit wild too as I awoke in the night once too cold and another time too warm. Staff were very nice.

Good, not Great

Staff was friendly and efficient. Room was on the small side. Looked clean, but the windows had been left open and the view was of a semi-flooded rooftop from next door. I'm assuming it was because the windows had been left open but the room was quite smelly when I first checked-in; strong odor of mildew. After closing windows the smell seemed somewhat better. Overall for the location and low price it was Okay.

Great visit to Vancouver

Everything great, except air conditioning too loud, so had trouble sleeping with it cycling (off, on ,off on etc) Disabled air conditioner on last night, and had great nights sleep. Liked it so much, we stayed an extra night!

Great location, friendly staff, cool design, musty odor

The hotel is in a great spot in the middle of downtown Vancouver. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant on the first floor had a surprisingly good breakfast. The building's got old bones, and they've done a good job decorating it with modern architectural touches. However, in the room itself, there was a lingering musty odor (like an old house) that bothered us. This was also true of our traveling companions' other room. The smell would prevent us from visiting again.

Great hotel for the Price

My friend and I stayed here in August on vacay. We broke the trip in 1/2 and stayed part of the time at the Pan Pacific and the last 2 nights at the Moda. It was a great spot for price AND location. It's not as fancy as the Pan, but their rates are almost double the average hotel. Moda is very central to many spots and walk to a variety of restaurants and sights is easy. Hotel is on the older side, I believe the building is 100+ years old but they keep it very clean. Staff was friendly. I would recommend it to someone traveling on a budget.

Basic, but decent value

I stayed for 2 nights in October, and found this hotel to be just fine. The rooms are basic (smallish, hard to find an outlet, etc.) but the location is great and the price much cheaper than newer but characterless places nearby. If you seek clean and workable lodging in central Vancouver, the Moda Hotel could do you well.

Comfy and Contemporary

Nice contemporary hotel room, loved the color scheme (red, white black and brown) Hotel staff was prompt and ready to help, location was a block from Robson street (which comes alive at night, bars and night clubs) a little noisy at night, but we enjoyed our stay there!

Nice Hotel

It was my first time in Vancouver and I was by myself. The hotel itself was very nice but the only problem I had with it was that there was no room service. There were days I didnt want to go out to look for food, although not hard to find there were just some times that I wanted breakfast in bed. Its location to Granville St was great, only a block away. The staff was very friendly as well.

Needing some improvement

When getting on the elevator and into the hallway, it was very warm. When entering the actual hotel room there was no air conditioning only a standing fan. The room was very clean and cozy, but extreamly hot. Ther was no room service or fitness center. The hotel staff stated that they were trying to get all aminities updated by July 1, 2007 but was unable to do this. On the positive side, the staff was extreamly friendly, and the housekeeping was great. Once they complete the updates to the hotel it should be a great place to stay.

Good, except for the noise during day

Construction next door very noisy, but at reasonable hours (after 9am). Well located, clean, well appointed in the price range. Parking is difficult. Reception staff was polite and helpful.
