Chic, modern accommodations in a historic downtown boutique hotel

The Moda is part of Vancouver's history, but there's nothing old-fashioned about its contemporary decor and modern amenities. Some of Vancouver's top interior designers created the sophisticated look of the guest rooms. High-quality linens, flat-screen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi also help create a contemporary atmosphere in this heritage hotel. The downtown location, close to shopping, sightseeing, and business venues, allows for a good old-fashioned stroll or catching the ultra modern skytrain to get where one needs to go.

Highlights
  • Heritage building updated and modernized for contemporary comfort
  • Beautiful Uva Wine Bar on the premises
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access
Rooms

Modern decor is expertly blended with the historic nature of this intimate hotel. Built in 1908, the updated and remodeled contemporary space still showcases exposed 100-year-old mosaic-tile floors in the lobby and bathrooms, 80-year-old hardwood floors and the original lobby ceiling with dramatic crown moldings. But the sleek palette with bold accents, ultra-modern furnishings and flat-screen televisions are anything but old. Linens with high thread counts, specialized Skoah skincare products, and free Wi-Fi Internet access also keep guests in the current century.

Features

Experience a little bit of Vancouver's history while staying in modern comfort in the heart of the entertainment and culture district. Walk to the Vancouver Art Gallery or the BC Place stadium. Take a short cab ride to Robson Street's world-class shopping and dining. Ride Canada Line's excellent public transportation to get nearly anywhere in the city and beyond. The hotel's serene and stylish Uva Wine Bar offers top wines, cocktails and imported beers. Cibo Trattoria, next door to the hotel, offers Italian fare made with fresh and local ingredients.

Cibo Trattoria
Located adjacent to the lobby of the Moda Hotel and steps away from the Orpheum Theatre, Cibo Trattoria specializes in Italian inspired cuisine made with same-day fresh and local ingredients. Cibo's unique list of decadent yet light dishes has been created by talented Executive Chef, Neil Taylor, to provide Vancouverites and visitors to Downtown Vancouver with a distinctive dining experience. Part of Cibo's allure is also its unique setting - sophisticated, modern interior design complemented by dramatic and rare architectural details. Special touches in this 52 seat dining room include a towering ceiling, original 1908 terracotta floors, century old exposed timber beams, over-sized, local pop art pieces, a white marble eye-level fireplace and a glassed-in tower of wine. Enjoy the warm and elegant ambience of this eclectic dining room that is truly unlike anything this world-class city has to offer.
Uva Wine Bar

Decent place, friendly staff

The hotel was built in 1908 (so is not a new, fancy building) and has two fine restaurants. The room, with one queen-size bed, was rather small but certainly adequate for a single traveler. Clean, pleasant, simple accommodations. The bathroom was updated, and high-speed wireless Internet was free.

Minimalist Boutique in a good location

We were exploring Vancouver for the weekend and wanted a place that was central to good food, attractions, and nightlife. Moda was clean and well decorated. If you can, ask for a room in the back (overlooking a parking lot) because you will not hear as much noise from the street. The wine bar is nice, but a tad pricey. Two cons: 1) the walls are thin, so you can hear noise from the hallway. 2) parking is not free or included.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Check out phnom penh in Chinatown if you like Vietnamese food! We went at 8:30 on a Monday night and there was a line of people waiting. Try the Vietnamese rice cakes (bahn bot chien) and the rice dessert with coconut milk for something different. Delicious and such a great price for amazing food in a hole-in-the-wall sort of place.

Beautiful Boutique Hotel

I arrived late on a Sunday evening for a six-day business trip. I'd chosen Moda Hotel because it was reasonably priced, close to my client site, and close to shopping and the vibrant nightlife I'd heard about in Vancouver, and not a "chain" hotel. I was not disappointed! It's only about a block from the shopping and restaurants on Granville, and less than a mile's walk from Vancouver Bay (worth the stroll). The restaurant (Ciba) and wine bar (Uva) were top-notch establishments - a great way to finish up the evening. The nightlife on Granville can get a bit noisy, and it is in the heart of the entertainment district, so be prepared for sounds of traffic and people. But the wireless internet service was excellent, the room was clean and tastefully furnished, and the staff immediately responded to my requests for service. It's definitely worth a try!

Dining tip: In Hotel

Uva (the wine bar) is truly worth a visit. Excellent, well-priced wines by the glass, and knowledgable, attentive service. And Ciba provides the "bar food"!

Stylish but dirty

Good location, decent price when split 3 ways, and overall not a bad experience. But it was the dirtiest hotel I've stayed at in a while. Lots of little things, like half-full trash cans and litter in the room. I'm not even a clean person, and would have cleaned more if I were having a guest.

Great little hotel

Loved the location, decor, and staff! Although recently remodeled the windows did do much to hold back the traffic noise. But will definitely stay again!

Cute and helpful

The hotel was great. The staff were very helpful and managed to get us into another room when we decided to extend our stay despite the fact the hotel was totally sold out. Really cool room styling. We never heard anyone in the other rooms despite everything being sold out. The only downside was the lack of parking in front of or near the hotel. There really is no place to stop and drop off your bags at the entrance. Also this hotel may not be great for those with low mobility as there is only one small two person elevator that sees a lot of use. I would definitely stay at the Moda again.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

DO not go to toyama sushi just down the street from the hotel. The service was terrible. Juno sushi is close by and we had an amazing meal there. Also check out the Elbow room next to Juno for some fantastic diner food or for breakfast.

Nice area, clean rooms, friendly staff

The best part of the Moda hotel was the friendly and helpful staff. I also liked that there was a great restaurant attached to the lobby of the hotel. On the downside, the room was pretty small....although it was spotless. The view was of the roof. The location of the hotel was great and Stanley Park was within walking distance. All and all I enjoyed our stay at the Moda hotel.
