This hotel has seen better days

Parking attendant at the hotel garage seemed oddly confused and bewildered when we initially pulled into the garage - in general I think it would not be unreasonable to expect to be greeted proactively, as opposed to my having to explain that we were checking in - 'cuz checking in seems well within the regular reasons we would be there, right? He turned out to be polite so that was alright, just peculiar. Front desk staff was polite. The room was small and kind of dingy. The TV looked to be from the early 80's. Bed was unbearably soft - some people may like soft beds so this is just a personal preference. THIS HOTEL HAS EXTREMELY SOFT BEDS. We asked the front desk if there were any other rooms with firmer mattresses but they said they were pretty much all the same. There was a rather large stain on the sheet so we asked for it to be changed out. The housekeeper who came was very polite and apologetic - even more apologetic when the new sheet also had a big stain. 3rd sheet's a charm I guess. Later after I got out of a shower, I found a big long hair on the towel that was definitely not mine nor my partner's. There were bathrobes available in the room that were very old and worn-down - what was probably once a really fluffy hotel-luxe bathrobe was... not so much anymore. After one night sleeping on the super-soft mattress, we both woke up with headaches so we decided to check out early.

Not that drammatic

Did not provide coffee each day as required. Removed bathing robe before our last day. Did not provide 2 robes to begin with. Think they are better than what they are. Would not recommend to anyone.

Great room, but small. Not free parking.

The restroom was great (showers, bathtub and sinks). The beds were good, but it was smaller than what I typically expect (probably because the restroom was so large). The parking wasn't complimentary so I had to shell out $40 /day for it. The TV wasn't even HD and it was small. For the most part, it was pretty good for downtown area.

Appreciate the free WiFi

Stayed here for a Trade Show weekend -- my 2nd time, and very happy. One of the few hotels where WiFi is free, and that is appreciated for a working weekend. Staff is really friendly, and I was allowed to check in early.

Nice botique hotel

The staff was exceptional. The concierge, Nathalie, was the best! She really helped with organizing our week long trip, took care of dinner reservations, etc. The hotel restaurant named Diva was a pleasant surprise for both breakfast and a late dinner. The room was clean and well maintained. The only two negative comments were that the soft goods in the room, bath sheets, towels, bath mat, etc, were a bit worn and frayed. Second, the televsion system/tv were out of date and had limited selections. Overall, great location, exceptional staff, and well worth the price on Orbitz.

Good value downtown hotel

Good hotel in central downtown location. Staff very helpful - anything we asked for was delivered promptly. Our room faced south-east and had a balcony (very rare downtown), although very small, but we were able to step outside and enjoy the morning sun. As it was our anniversary, a member of staff brought up to our room a cake on a decorated plate, together with an anniversary card, which was very much appreciated. They also allowed us to stay on in our room for a few hours on a last day, after the midday checkout. Breakfast was not included, and was rather expensive, but probably no more so than other similar hotels. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Buses plentiful in close proximity to the hotel, covering all areas of Vancouver - fare $2.50, and each ticket can be used as often as needed within a time limit (around 1.5-2 hours) - cheaper than taking taxis. Also Skytrain to airport, if not too much baggage.

Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver

Very elegant hotel. Clean, nicely decorated, helpful staff. Expensive parking at the hotel but that is to be expected when staying in a city. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Bayshore Bicycle rental. Very helpful and courteous staff. Free parking of your car at the bike rental. They also have very good rates and they are fair in their rental. They charge $6 per hour and prorate your time if you do not have a full hour. Close to Stanley Park.

Lovely hotel

I spent a weekend here on a great rate through Orbitz. I had read a bunch of reviews noting that there is a construction site next door to the hotel, but decided to risk it. I sent an email ahead requesting a room away from the construction, and I was pleasantly surprised that they granted my request despite the fact that I was staying there on such a cheap rate! That being said, there was still some street noise, but nothing unexpected when staying downtown. The front desk staff was charming and the room was lovely; I just wish it had a bit more lighting. But I had an odd experience with the housekeeping crew. On Saturday morning I slept in and lolled about (I mean, that's what a hotel is for, no?) with the do not disturb sign on my door. I was surprised to hear the phone ring as no one knew what hotel I was staying at--so I did not answer. When I checked the voicemail, I couldn't believe it. It was housekeeping calling to ask "when they could clean my room, because the do not disturb sign was on the door"! I guess the sign meant "don't knock" not "do not disturb." I was very glad they hadn't woken me up as I'm not sure I would have been able to hold my tongue. Anyway, I went out a bit later to get lunch and when I returned the room had been cleaned--but a couple of rags were left by the sink. Just odd. I went out again a bit later, and when I came back the rags were gone. So--fantastic location, ask for a room away from the construction, enjoy the pleasant desk staff, and prepare yourself for some odd housekeeping.
