Great budget hotel

The staff was excellent; Manuel in particular was most helpful. The hotel shows its age in ways but is very well-kept. The suites are of good size and comfortable. The location is excellent, with Stanley Park a half-dozen blocks west and all of downtown within easy walking distance. There is street noise starting with local business hours during the day, but it's very quiet at night. If you're looking for a decent hotel on a budget, look no further. I would be happy to stay there again.

Basic service, great location, no elevator

We were looking for a relative inexpensive hotel for a family on a budget. The Greenbriar meet those needs, but it is not the hotel for people looking for pampering. The major drawback to the hotel is the lack of air conditioning. We were in Vancouver during a hot spell and you had to have the windows open or roast. Unfortunately Robson street is pretty noisy until after midnight. The Greenbriar also does not have an elevator, so you have to lug your luggage up a couple of flights of stairs. The suite served very well for three (two adults and a child) and we cooked many of our meals. The full-size refrigerator was very handy and there are grocery stores a couple blocks away on Robson St. However, the provided dishes were rudimentary so it was fortunate that we had brought some with us. We had a car with us and paid the extra $20 per day for parking. There is no street parking in the neighborhood and the local public garage closed at night, so plan on paying for parking if you have a car. In summary- if you have ear plugs and you're looking for a relatively inexpensive apartment-like acommodations then the Greenbriar is for you. If you're traveling with someone who is disabled or are looking for a full-service modern hotel, the Greenbriar is not the place for you.

Do not go- very poor amenities & service

We were upgraded to deluxe suite, however to our horror the room was dated, no AC, facing the street and very noisy, shower was a trickle of cold water and no microwave, utensils or silverware in the attached kitchenette. If this is not convincing enough, other reasons not to go include no elevators & no bell boys(we had to haul our luggage to 3rd floor ourselves), people do not answer the phone, you get dried quarters of bagel for breakfast and horrible coffee. Avoid at all costs.

Sad Stay at the Greenbrier

Problem #1 - Immediately upon arriving, lobby was stuffy, carpet was very worn with cigarette burn marks. Problem #2 - Room was exceptionally hot - only way to control air temperature was to open or close the window. Problem #3 - No food Only good thing was the sheets were clean.

Excellent hotel property and staff!

I really got a lot more than I expected for the price. It was a junior suite...which really equated to a one bedroom apt. I couldn't have asked for anything more. It was an absolutely great location, friendly and helpful staff, and the room was clean and modern.

Great Location, Friendly Staff

Hotel is right on Robson Street, midway between the streets of Burrard and Denman. Ideal location with many restaurants nearby. For a fee, secure and covered parking is provided. Rooms were updated with contemporary furniture, but still needs more furniture. Almost felt like a college campus dormitory apartment, however, very clean and still comfortable. My only real gripe was that there was no air conditioner, so we had to open the windows at night and wake up to the noise of the morning traffic on Robson Street. Although the building is only 3 floors, there was no elevator.

Great place to stay in Vancouver

The staff was uniformly friendly and engaged in what they do no matter what time of the day or night they were on duty. The rooms were fine and competently maintained. The location on Robson Street is excellent for walking and the public transportation system. We've stayed in other Vancouver hotels that were more luxurious, but this is easily the finest value we've found in the city. We recommend it without reservation.

There are a variety of restaurants along Robson between the hotel and Burrard that run the gamut for type of food and price points, something for everyone.
