The room stunk, and the ...

The room stunk, and the windows did not open. Three of the four bed pillows had blood stains on the cases. There was a tampon wrapper on the floor. And the tap in the bathroom sink made a very loud banging sound and gave no water. There is only one elevator, which is small, slow and dirty. The neighborhood Safeway store had security guards at the doors.

Spend more, go somewhere else!

Horrible experience. I did not sleep a wink in this hotel. Next time I go, I will spend a bit more and get a nice hotel anywhere but in this part of town. Very smelly!!

Disappointment with the hotel

When we checked in, we were told there would be light breakfast every Morning, but there were nothing there. The room wall has some holes, and bath room has black mold. Bath room's fan was not working. Lamps were not plugged in, so we had to find outlets. Does not supply face cloth. The floor was sticky where the tiles were. Smelled old carpet odor throughout. Very disappointed.

Bed Bug Free

Lost reservation & bed bugs

We live in Vancouver and booked our stay at the Cassandra because our apartment was being treated for bed bugs and we needed to stay somewhere else. After carefully cleaning all of our things we left to check in at the hotel. They had no record of our reservation at all. I suspect that's the hotel's fault because we had our confirmation email and there were so many other things wrong. I waited for a few minutes for them to sort this out and heard numerous complaints from customers who approached the desk during my wait. They gave us a room but it reeked of cigarettes and was dirty. The bed frames were just boxes with carpet on them. We checked the bed and found bed bug shells. There was no way we were staying there just to bring bed bugs back to our carefully cleaned and treated apartment.

Won't go back again

This is a very mediocre hotel which suffers from poor maintenance and housekeeping. We had to change rooms because of plumbing problems and excessive noise coming from the rooms above us. A room on the third floor is a must. This hotel does not provide free internet and tried to charge us $3.50 a day for Wi-Fi. We negotiated 4 free hours however. On our third day of a four day stay our room was not made up at 4pm. The reason, only one person on the housekeeping staff that day!

Not quite downtown

The staff was disorganized about the check-in. Myself and my other guest arrived at different times, and they collected deposits from both of us and gave us each extra sets of keys. At first they weren't even going to let me check in because the reservation was under the other guest's name, although I had called a week in advance to let them know I'd be arriving early. It was a cheap hotel (comparatively). I guess you get what you pay for.

Decent if you have to bring your dog

When we first walked in their were hairs in the bathtub. They were sawing into the ceiling in the hall outside our room at 4am to look for a leaking pipe. But they didn't have any problem with our dog and they didn't charge any extra fee either. Location was very convenient.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Simply Curries is right down the street at 3343 Kingsway. They had the best curry I've had in years. Don't eat at Bino's. I didn't think that breakfast could be done that poorly. They set a new international low for me.
