Great value, great location
The hotel is going through remodeling and we had a chance to experience the rooms before and after remodeling. Our one night stay in the “old” room contrasted by staying the remaining days in the “new” room. Especially the bathrooms were significantly improved. The hotel offer great, great location in downtown Vancouver. We liked the location so much that we booked some extra days on our way back from Whistler as well. I would definitely recommend the hotel.

Gross
This is the second time that I have attempted to stay at this hotel because of its great location and cheap price. The first time, it was awful, loud... unknown substances on the bed that they refused to clean. Just awful. This time was the same, but I also saw workers with masks on and I literally asked them if someone died in the room they were "cleaning" but realized later that the smell was from them fumigating bed bugs. This place is just terrible. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!

get what you paid for
It was a bit noisy. Hotel quite old, small room, but staff helpful. No lift, so had to carry my heavy suitcase up the stairs. Overall, it is a good hotel in a great location and one of the cheapest in downtown

Get what you pay for
I got this room simply looking for a bed to sleep on at night while on vacation. I got it. Comfortable and clean room. Nothing fancy but the cost was beyond reasonable. The hotel is having renos done so hopefully it'll be more appealing.

Alright.
Location was good, close to train stations so we could get around easily. Room was smaller than expected but it worked being that we only needed the room for basic needs. If you are expecting to spend more time in your hotel, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. The hotel is also under maintenance so if you're a late sleeper you might want to think of a different place for now. They started working early morning and the noise may have been disruptive if we were to sleep later than 8:30/9am. Other than that, like I said, if you're spending all day out and all you need is a place to sleep and stow your luggage, this is for you!

Better than expected.
Great location - it's a bit of a walk to the bars, but a great location for shopping. The hotel itself was a pleasant surprise: Delux 2 double beds - the beds were separated by a wall, great living-room-like area, kitchen table, and fridge. Perfect value for the price, will definitely stay here again. Although, do take note NOT to exchange money at the hotel, their exchange rate is a rip off.

Needs some work
I am returning to Vancouver in a month and will not stay at the Barclay. The first room I checked into for the first night was right over the bar, fortuneately the bar closes early on Sunday. The second room was at the back had a 13inch TV no control of the steam heat and no window. Also in the morning you had to turn on the hot water and let it run for 15 minutes to get hot water. If you like loud noise, no entertainment, lots of heat and cold showers stay at the Barclay. However it is in the Robson street shopping area and that and bus service is very nice.

Take the #5 Robson bus down to Denman st to English Bay. Along Denman there are some great eateries especially fish and chips. English Bay beach and walk are beautiful and well worth seeing

Decent and local
The location of this place was great! Very local to convenient stores and the ship area. The only complaint for me was the internet being slow. It was free with a password but it lagged speed. Other than that, it's very affordable with a friendly staff. Room and bathroom are small but if all your concern is a place to sleep and shower at a reasonable price this is the place for you! Even though my room was small the bed covers design vamped up the room to a red/orange color that I'd like.
