Simply lovely, set in a breathtaking location. Gorgeous grounds. Unfussy comfort. Staff couldn't be more accommodating. Not inexpensive, but for sure you get what you pay for. Wouldn't hesitate to return; hope we get the chance!

Skip Jasper

The drive up from Lake Louise was beautiful, but Jasper itself is just okay. There is no unique experience in Jasper, just more mountains and lakes. I'd recommend skipping Jasper altogether, visit Banff and Lake Louise, and just drive up from Lake Louise for the Peyto Lake hike which is spectacular and the Glacier walk if that's your thing. This hotel is not as nice as the Fairmont in Banff or Lake Louise, it's more of a lodge with individual cabins which are not serviced daily. Our experience at the steak house restaurant was not good -- very poor service -- we were basically ignored.

Wish it were 1970... when JPL was likely "all that".

I have to say, going to JPL has always been something I looked forward to. I was there about 10 years ago with a "50% off" coupon. My chalet was incredible in 2003. We got an incredible room with a fireplace, king-size bed, lots of space... JPL is in dire need of an upgrade for the $250/night I paid for a simple room with a queen-size bed this past weekend. The bathroom is in the most need of renovation. There is no fan, so the air duct is all rusted. The tub is small, old and, though not dirty, looks like it is. The place is just old. It was quite warm when I walked in my room... I mean, it was likely 27º warm. I turned off the thermostat and nothing changed. 1 hour later and I had to call for servicing. The repairman came quickly and turned off the radiators and opened my window, telling me that it should be okay in about 45 mins. I didn't bother to call back.... the cool mountain was good enough for me. Water pipes... the living, breathing pipes... gosh. Someone flushes a toilet and I can locate all the pipes running through the entire hotel room. (no joke). Some of the other patrons slammed doors for a good 10 minutes. What was up with that? Sure, I enjoy Jasper. I really do! But I don't think JPL goes far enough to make a difference and be called a 4-star Lodge. Needs paint, a modern update and perhaps... just perhaps, you might earn a 4-star rating.

overpriced cabin

We stayed two nights in Fairmont Jasper lodge because literally all other hotels/cabins/camping sites were fully booked during the long weekend. For a rate of $380 per night, we expected the stay to be comfortable. But it turned out to be quite disappointing. During check-in, after confirming that we are not members of Fairmont president's club and we have never stayed in this lodge before, the staff (who I think normally serves for the club members) did not show any hospitality or spare more words than necessary. When we asked for wi-fi, he told us to just use last name + room number as password. But he did not mention anything about the incurred charge, nor did he mention that wi-fi is free of charge for fairmont club member. Later another staff helped us and kindly shared her club membership. But the first guy's altitude really upsets us. The hotel facility is also disappointing. There are very limited parking spaces in front of the cabins. So in order to find a parking spot you need to drive several rounds (because all roads are one-way traffic) , and you always end up parking your car in a self-parking lot which is far, far away from the cabin, or using valet parking. There are awkward circumstances when two cars fighting for one parking spot, you'll see when resources are so limited not everyone is a gentleman despite the fancy and expensive cars they are driving. The non-smoking room we stayed has a strong smoking smell. The lamp in the room has been broken but was not fixed on time, so the housekeeper has to leave the nightstand lamp on all the time while we are away during the day. I guess the hotel is good for those who only play Golf and stay in the hotel without stepping outside. For others, it's merely an overpriced cabin, and it takes ~10 min to get to all shops, restaurants in Jasper.

Incredible Views

The rooms were quite small and ordinary. There is no air conditioning which I'm sure is unnecessary most of the time. That being said, if you like privacy, you will not find it here since you must sleep with open windows and screened doors during the warm months. Would I stay there again? Absolutely! The views are magnificent, the food is better than average, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. There are Elk on property every evening around dusk so that was an added thrill.
