25 minutes away from the airport, overall good value
Beware the shuttle if you are short on time. Because of a road closure/new runway put in, all the airport hotels are located 20 min+ from the airport. If you call for the hotel shuttle, that means it's a 40 min round trip. Probably better off taking a cab. We were there one night for business. The room was clean and the staff was really friendly. The restaurant attached to the hotel had good food and service.

Nice Stay
We stayed in the Sandman twice, as we came into Canada and before leaving. At first it was difficult to find, and seemed remote, but after driving around discovered it was very accessible to all we needed once on Barlow Trail. We had no problems getting to the airport the last morning, and it only took about 15-20 minutes. The room was comfortable and clean and the staff was very cordial. We enjoyed a meal at Maxie, although confused by the signs (they led us to believe there were more than one restaurant on the premise). Overall I would recommend the Sandman.

Good hotel for airport
Because of new airport development, the Sandman is no longer 5 minutes from the airport --now 15-20 minutes -- but it's still one of the closest. The room was comfortable & quiet. I especially appeciate that the TV is in a cabinet, which minimizes noise-seepage from adjoining rooms. The restaurant -- the only eaterie around -- is competent, although the music is too loud & makes conversation difficult. Interestingly, the shuttle from the airport is free, but the shuttle back to the airport is $5(CAD) per person.

Stampede getaway
Easy to find. Nice room. Staff very helpful. Only shortcoming was that there was usually only one person at the front desk, and the hotel was packed because of Stampede. Mass transit train is only about a half mile away, and also very easy to find.

Confused traveler
Odd setup
We needed the restroom (wash room in Canada) after driving for a long distance. Enforce checking in. They don't have one near the front desk! They directed us down a long hall to the restaurant which had poor signage so we didn't find that quickly also. When my wife went into the washroom, she went down a hall and another woman was coming from the other direction. They each moved in the same way to get out of each others way. Suddenly she realized that the other woman was a reflection from a mirror. A woman standing there laughed and said "I'm so glad you did that. I did the same and thought that I was losing it!"

Sandman overnight
We had a late arrival so just checked in, went to bed and got up early to catch another flight. The bed was comfortable, clean and cozy. The decor was tasteful. The hotel is near the airport but takes almost 1/2 hour to get there as there is construction and a main road artery is now permanently closed. We were not informed of that when booking and it would have been helpful to know ahead of time. Also, it is wise to book the hotel shuttle early because it only seats 6. We were bumped because we were the last to reserve seats. We had to take a taxi to make our flight in time for check-in and customs.

Sandman near airport traffic
We stay at Sandman airport every trip to Calgary. Nice rooms and usually convenient to the airport. Not so now. With the addition of a new runway at the airport and rerouting of some major roads, traffic from Sandman to the airport is a mess. Still a good hotel.

At the restaurant, we ordered Nachos. They were great, BUT it seems stupid to fly from Austin, TX, to Calgary and then eat TexMex food. But, they did a great job.
