Raffles in PP
This is a good choice if you want a quiet locale. It is old and has old acoustics in the halls and walls. Traffic noise in the rooms is minimal. AC is very good and dry in a very humid climate. It is very well maintained. Staff is attentive and tries their best to please you. Prices are exhorbitant.......they are 5 star prices.......no discounts. $7 coffee. $10 minimum for drinks. Plan on around $40-$80 minimum for two for a meal. Much more for dinner and even room service is going to be pricey......at least $20 on average. The welcoming drink was complimentary........nothing else so far as I know. The spa was very good but, of course, costs 4 times as much as an outside spa in town. Three friends of mine used it at approx $40 each and were happy with the salt scrub. I did not use the pool. I used the conceirge once with good results. I did not dine in the premium restuarant and hardly anyone else did either. It is an elegant looking room...... The food in general was good, not excellent. My test....maple syrup.....a true five star will have real maple syrup for use on breakfast confections like pancakes or waffles. This one did not.....it was grocery store sugar syrup with artificial maple flavoring. I did not use the hotel cars..... all Mercedes. I don't know what they cost to use as taxi's. If they were complimentary then that was never mentioned as a Hotel service. I did not notice them being used very much. TAK TAK's were used and are fun. The traffic is amazing but the drivers manage it with ease, driving in the wrong lanes, performing U turns with impunity, avoiding other cycles, tak tak's and cars with ease. I can recommend this hotel but I will not stay there again. Once is enough. There are probably better choices in town in terms of cost and services.
