Great location, average hotel, poor safe
Shush May 9, 2009
The staff were nice and helpfull and always was someone that speak English. the location is great one block from the ... beach. the room is nice and clean the bed comfortable but the safe is very small and has a key card if you loose the card you have to pay 150 R$ its a lot. the parking and internet are not free 15 R$ per day each of them that mean 30R$ per day both of them. at least it can be a good 3 stars hotel in Europe.

Good Choice in a Good Location

Promenade Visconti was a good choice for us as it was our first time in Rio (we are a young, active couple). It's one block ... from Ipanema Beach. There were generally two attendants at the front desk and both spoke fluent English (and some of the baggage attendants also spoke some English). They helped out with activities (hanggliding, renting bikes, etc), directions, restaurant recommendations, and taxi reservations. The room was relatively spacious (small table, sitting area with couch and wet bar) and quiet. Bathroom was functional and fine. The room had a reasonable amount of sunlight but no view. We thought the breakfast was great -- no shortage of choices and breakfast hours were long. The swimming pool is relatively small but given how close we were to the beach, we didn't even consider using it. On our last day, the hotel stored our bags all day and let us use the shower facilities near the pool to clean up for our flight. Everything was seamless. If I had to identify one minor item -- and this is more of a personal preference -- it was that it felt like we were overpaying for the activities arranged through the hotel (which is logical) and after we booked it generally always seemed to cost a little more than the price we were originally quoted (which felt like standard practice in Brazil). That said, we felt safe and very comfortable with the people who took us hanggliding -- which was important to us -- and the incremental dollars that we may have overpaid for reservations were minor in the grand scheme of things (maybe $100 or $150 across all of our activities). It was not the romantic place I have stayed but should work well for non-honeymoon travelers who intend to spend more time outside their room than inside. Overall, when I travel, I rate my hotel experiences as the value delivered versus what I paid and I think Promenade Visconti rated highly. I would stay there again.
