Nice location on Copacabana Beach
The room was very small, it was supposed to be a King bed but was really only a Queen. However the room had a fantastic view of Sugar loaf. Breakfast was included and offered lots of choices. The rooftop pool is fantastic.

Blah!!!
The thing the Petana has going for it is the Staff. They are excellent. The hotel itself really needs updating. Small rooms. Best view is from an ocean front room or at the pool. Certainly not worth the money in my opinion.

Short walk from hotel
Try the churrsaria less than 2 blocks away and the restaurant just out front was good too. Good food there and they didn't bother me when I was done eating. If you want Caiperinhas (spelling) just walk across to the beach and sit by the shack there for half the price of the hotel.

Great place but could improve a little
The location is fantastic, right on the beach and across from the night-time souvenir market. The hotel is beautiful and clean. The staff is helpful and speaks English, including the bell boys. The shortage of irons was a problem. It's not one per room. I almost could not attend a wedding in a proper outfit. Also, no clock was provided. Plan ahead.

Long walk from hotel
Garota de Ipanema is not too far. The cab ride is quick but it is also an enjoyable long walk on the beach. This is the restaurant where Tom Jobim saw the girl and wrote the song: "The girl from Ipanema"

A dump with a view
Great location and views from the upper floors, but the rooms are shabby with old, cheap furniture and bad carpeting. My room had a hole in one wall big enough for a person to walk through barely covered over with a piece of plywood...And that was the good room(!)--the one I got after I very politely refused to stay in a room that had wet carpet and stank. In sum, nice lobby and rooftop pool, but the rooms reminded me of places I stayed in when I was in college and had no money.

Very Pleasantly Surprised
I booked a single (which potentially offered only a twin bed). I expected a shoebox to sleep in. The room I got was very nice. It was small, but small like a standard room in New York. Perfect for just me. It had a full sized bed and, a small balcony looking out into the streets of Rio. It had a very comfortable old world feel to it. I absolutely loved it. The room definitely had a lot of character. The rooftop pool is amazing and a great place to have lunch. The hotel is right across the street from the beach and has its own facilities on the beach. Great service, very clean, incredible location and a great room. There isn't anything else I could have wanted.

One of the nicest hotels we've used.
The hotel is in a great location, right on Copacobana Beach. The staff is very friendly & helpful, and the front desk staff speak good English. We had an ocean-front suite, which was comfy & spotless. The hotel has its own beach services (towels, umbrellas, etc), a delicious break fast with charming staff. Neighborhood is safe and has all you need--grocery, pharmacy, craft market, restaurants, cinema. We've stayed throughout the US, Europe & Mexico, and this hotel was one of the best.
