Great location, close to Copacabana Beach. We enjoy eating shrimp and drinking caipirinhas served accross the street from the ... hotel. If you want to save a buck or two go to the restaurants for kilo, they offer several dishes and you only pay what you eat. This is our second time in Brazil, we went to Petropolis and Buzios, they are beautiful places to spend the day.

If you want to go shopping and save money it is better if you go to Norte Shopping Mall, it's a 30 minutes drive.

the hotel is old, dirty, not attractive, not well maintained. there is no free access to wifi in spite of what was ... advertised. one of the elevator allways stop at the second floor even though we signaled them about the problem. However, the breakfast is correct. The hotel is far overpriced.

It was great sampling different places to eat even though we found it odd where your food gets weighed before you pay. So if you are thinking of being wasteful or eat all you want for the same price like in American buffet places, forget it. Over all their meat recipes were awesome. Great place.We liked Rio.

So if you are thinking of being wasteful or eat all you want for the same price like in American buffet places, forget it. Over all their meat recipes were awesome. Great place.We liked Rio.

Our horrific experience at Rio beach

This is a friendly warning to all those who are vacationing in Rio de Janeiro , be aware of gang activity at beautiful ... beaches. We were mugged on Copacabana beach on July 6th 2009 at 7 pm. We were aware of criminal activity on beach, but were not warned by anyone including hotel management to stay away from beach even at dusk time due to gang activity. These gang members look like joggers, or those people who play volleyball on sand near the paved side of beach. Three of us were walking on beach around 7 pm. , and saw four men jogging coming towards us. We thought they are joggers and they would pass by but as they came near us instead of jogging ahead, they ( one person each) knocked us down. We became off balance and fell on ground on our back on sand. They robbed us with knives and with a failed molestation attempt, they ran away. I am writing this so that I can help someone who is there to enjoy beauty of Rio and becomes target of gang activity for no fault of their own. After this incident I would suggest stay away from beach from 6 pm. to 8 am. All women should carry either pepper spray or knife with them in their pocket, as long as they are in Brazil. We have traveled to many different countries, and consider ourselves savvy travelers, We never had this kind of experience earlier. If this can happen to us then it can happen to anyone else. After this incident the front desk at Hotel Lancaster Othon Hotel was helpful, however I feel they should have warned us beforehand.

A simple vacation

The hotel was not a 3 or 4 star hotel but it was a simple accomodation. It was very clean and the staff was very nice. ... Unfortunately, their internet service was not good at all. Their internet service went down and did not return for 6 days. Other than that, the hotel was good.

The Lancaster Hotel location is the best part of staying at this hotel, you are just a few steps from Copacabana beach, from ... bus stops that can take you to the most popular tourist sites. The personal is very friendly which compensates how old the building and some of the fixtures are. Very good value for its price.
