The hotel is strategically located, near the main touristic sights. It's a very privileged region in the very southwest of Brazil, where Parana and Iguassu rivers converge, which makes a tri-border area along the junction of Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil. The city was founded on June 10th, 1914. The word Iguacu (Iguassu) has its origin in the native language Tupi-Guarani, spoken before the colonization. It's formed by the junction of two words: Ygu (water) and Acu (big), Big Water. The city is located at 183 m above the sea level, its main touristic sights are: - The Iguassu Falls, with an incredible number of water falls (approximately 275), causing an amazing sound of the waters, heard kilometers away. The waters fall from 80m height; - Itaipu, the largest hydroelectric plant in the world; - Three frontiers landmark; - Paraguay (the country), where shopping is the greatest attraction, besides its casinos. Foz do Iguacu is the second touristic pole and the third in number of hotels, in Brazil. The other amenity includes Ballroom, Barbecue area, Billiards, Dry cleaning, Lobby and Reception. Viale Cataratas Hotel & Eventos is a Smoke-free hotel.

Sort of a let-down

The night staff at check-in was absolutely horrendous. It took about fifteen minutes for the staff to check us into a pre-paid room. Further, upon asking the simple question "how much is a cab to the falls?" the employee simply replied "I have no idea. Ask a driver." I understand he may have been tired, but the whole reason for this town's existence is the falls, and I really suspect he had a general idea how much a cab would cost. Especially since the hotel is isolated, and many travelers have to use taxi services. Secondly, the mattresses in the room are just not very comfortable, but this is Brazil so you'll have to sacrifice a good night's rest. Lastly, and most frustrating, is their internet. You must pay a hefty price to buy time on their computers - which is not so uncommon. What was unbearable was how absolutely slow their computers and internet are. If you're paying 7 real for fifteen minutes of internet use, the computers and internet should at least be fast. They are not. They are dreadfully slow, and you'll be lucky to even be able to log into your email account within the fifteen minutes. Wifi isn't much better, and is more expensive. On the upside, the pool area is nice, and so is the breakfast. Plus the hotel looks pretty new.
