Quaint historic bed and breakfast in St. George

This quaint bed and breakfast, hidden away at 1 Nea's Alley in the historic Olde Towne of St George, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Nea herself was said to be the unrequited love of the Irish poet Thomas Moore, who was stationed on a government post here in the early 1800s. The property, located near shops, restaurants, and a public beach, features individually designed rooms named after local flora and fauna.

Highlights
  • UNESCO World Heritage site
  • Short walk to historic village of St. Georges
  • Light complimentary breakfast
Rooms

The individually designed rooms include unusual features such as various four-poster and canopy beds and distinctive artwork. Each room has a private bath, and some include fireplaces.

Features

Cozy, quiet atmosphere.

I imagine it is the best deal on the island for a "place to sleep", as long as you are not spoiled and in need of someone else finding your entertainment for you. St. George is a pretty sleepy town these days, so don't expect much going on within walking distance or if you need nightlife. Access to a ferry and bus is a short walk away, and for me, the best part of my trip was the long bus ride back from Hamilton each day. I did not encounter problems stated in previous reviews, and you could tell recent work had been done. Bathrooms were clean and furnished. Rachelle, the innkeeper, is as nice and laid back as can be. The "house" overall has a very warm feel and it felt like coming "home" each day. To be honest, I found it to be better than expected even.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

The ferry from St. George only runs on the weekdays, so you may want to plan ahead if you plan on going to the other end of the island, Dockyard, and working your way back. Otherwise you would spend much of your day getting there by bus instead.

Hidden Hideaway

Lovely Inn, right in the hear of historic St. George. April is a perfect time to visit because of the peaceful atmosphere! A good value, however, I was expecting something more than just coffee and tea for breakfast.

Perfect getaway

Aunt Nea's is a perfectly charming inn located in St. George's. If you are looking for a great historic place without a touristy feel, this is the inn. The rooms were great, and there are amazing verandas to sit on and watch the harbor. The owner had us over for wine one evening, and the inn is within walking distance of one of the island's best, rarely visited coves. It's a great place off the beaten path for travelers who aren't looking to be herded around the island with packs of tourists.

Go to Tobacco Bay. It's about a ten minute walk away, and if you go in the morning, this beautiful cove is all yours to enjoy. Also check out the beach near Fort St. Catherine's. Beautiful beach that almost no one goes to.

Laid Back Vacation

Inexpensive, clean, relaxing. Not a resort, but we weren't looking for one. Housekeeping staff and inn keeper were definately FIVE STAR. Very knowledgeable about the island especially St George. According to the Inn Keeper, Aunt Nea's will be expanding to include a pool and hot tubs. We are ready to book our next stay.

Sadly a trust issue appears.

Showed up for a quiet time after several lovely days in Hamilton et al. Gone no longer than an hour and noticed money missing from our luggage. Not casting blame, but (after many times of accounting) it appears someone had taken $200 out of what could have been $1400 (us). So I guess we were lucky. But it really put a terrible light over this almost dead section of a great island. Before we went to bed, we literally put luggage in front of our door because we felt someone had been there while we were gone.

quaint

very close proximity to downtown St. Georges and it made for an easy trip to and from the grocery store and nearby retailers/restaurants. No real place/activities for the kids or adults. Since I traveled with children, I prefer to stay at a cottage close to friends. The room was kept neat and the beds were comfortable... the shower head was terrible, but everyone was very kind.

Week at Aunt Nea's

The Inn had a great location amidst an old and historical Bermuda village; alleys exist today where they have for hundreds of years and lead, those who like to walk, to all food, entertainment and neat explorations. A great place to launch into the rest of the island using the bus system and to return too after you are all worn out. Also local are parks, forts and many beaches that feel local, and less tourist driven. All natives are friendly, pleasant and helpful. You can feel local yourself in very little time.Very pleasant indeed. Big on friendly funky comfort, not on service oriented attention and entertainment. You can get advice but entertainment is your own initiative. Works for me.
